  • A series of unfortunate events: Deurbanization, agency, placemaking and the origins of city-states in Crete 1200–700 BC

  • Sender- and receiver-specific blockmodels

    Open Access•Zhi Geng, Krzysztof Nowicki•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Structure•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 15

We propose a sender-specific blockmodel for network data which utilizes both the group membership and the identities of the vertices. This is accomplished by introducing the edge probabilities (ŵ¿,ν) for 1 ≤ i ≤ c, 1 ≤ v ≤ n, where í specifies the group membership of a sending vertex and ν specifies the identity of the receiving vertex. In addition, group membership is consider to be random, with parameters (í>í)í=io We present methods based on t…

  • Ritual in the Bronze Age Aegean: The Minoan Peak Sanctuaries. By Evangelos Kyriakidis

  • Estimation and Prediction for Stochastic Blockstructures

Krzysztof Nowicki, Tom Ab Snijders et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•2001

A statistical approach to a posteriori blockmodeling for digraphs and valued digraphs is proposed. The probability model assumes that the vertices of the digraph are partitioned into several unobserved (latent) classes and that the probability distribution of the relation between two vertices depends only on the classes to which they belong. A Bayesian estimator based on Gibbs sampling is proposed. The basic model is not identified, because class…

  • Arvi Fortetsa and Loutraki Kandilioro: Two refuge settlements in Crete

    Open Access•Krzysztof Nowicki•ARTICLE•The Annual of the British School…•1996•References: 6

Among dark age defensible sites in Crete there exist extensive settlements which in size, significance, and chronology are comparable to Karphi, the best-known example. Representative of this settlement type are Arvi Fortetsa and Loutraki Kandilioro, two LM III C sites investigated in the early 1990s. This article presents a topographical description, an analysis of surface material, and a discussion of their significance for the settlement patte…

  • A dark age refuge centre near Pefki, East Crete

    Open Access•Krzysztof Nowicki•ARTICLE•The Annual of the British School…•1994•References: 12

This paper presents the result of the field investigations undertaken at newly identified dark age sites near Pefki, E. Crete, in 1990–1. A series of LM III–PG/G settlements (complemented with graveyards) show the same topographical characteristics as ruled the settlement pattern of dark age Crete, and support the idea that it was a serious threat from outside that forced people to abandon the coastal plains and low valleys and look for safety in…

  • Clustering of dyad distributions as a tool in network modeling

Ove Frank, Maureen T Hallinan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Mathematical Sociology•1985•Cited by: 7•References: 3

A general approach to exploratory analysis and modeling of network data is to investigate dyad distributions. We discuss clustering of dyad distributions when there are several variables defined on the vertices, and these variables interact with the arc values of the network. As an illustration we use data on achievement, race, sex and friendship for children in 48 different school classes. A clustering of the dyad distributions leads to the form…
