Prehistoric Remains on the Island of Kythnos
The Technology of Eastern Puebloan Pottery on the Llano Estacado
Presented in summary form are morphological descriptions of the principal kinds of eastern Anasazi decorated pottery found on the Llano Estacada and adjacent regions. Emphasized is glaze-paint pottery which seems to occur more frequentlythan earlier black-on-white types. Anasazi pottery has generally been accurately dated by the dendrochronological method in its area of manufacture. Because of this, it is an invaluable tool in the cross dating of…
The Rio Grande Complex and the Northern Plains
The earliest component at the La Bolsa site in the Galisteo Basin of north-central New Mexico is an early manifestation of what is defined in this paper as the Quemado Phase of the proposed Rio Grande Complex. Relatively dated to about 7000 to 6000 years ago, this Proto-Archaic Phase is postulated to be ultimately rooted in the Agate Basin Complex of the northern Plains
The Patination Of Stone Artifacts
The patination of artifacts made of silicious stone involves certain chemically irreversible processes. Influencing factors are: quality and quantity of impurities and certain structural aspects of the stone, nature and mechanism of penetration of patination agents, weather and soil conditions
