Does delivery matter? Examining pandemic vaccination preferences across time and countries using a discrete choice experiment
Design choices for the LMVD system significantly impact vaccination preferences. Adapting these systems to different countries, time periods, and population groups is key for their effectiveness
Potentials of Employing Local Heritage in City Branding
Surakarta is one of the historical cities in Java, Indonesia. The Surakarta Kasunanan Palace exists in the Baluwarti area of the city.Baluwarti was inhabited by nobles, courtiers and ordinary people who carried out daily activities as a living heritage. This ancient city has various kinds of tangible and intangible local potential. This research examines the aspects that could to be articulated to promote city branding of Baluwarti. It employs a ques…
To eat or not to eat oats
A suboptimal diet is responsible for more deaths worldwide than any other risk. A dietary factor that needs more attention is whole-grain consumption because of its proven health, nutritional, and environmental benefits. Despite these benefits, the daily whole-grain and dietary fibre intake by Dutch residents is low and the reasons for this low consumption are unknown. This study analysed the facilitating and hindering factors associated with (no…
Don’t Shoot the Messenger – Reflections on streamlining and simplification of Environmental Assessment in the Netherlands
The Netherlands’ Environmental Assessment (EA) system has continuously been discussed with calls for streamlining and simplifying. This paper aims to provide an overview and to examine these discussions, including their more fundamental background. To this end, we discuss the origins of the Dutch EA-system, its practice, the critique, the regulator’s reaction by changing institutional arrangements, and the consequences. We conclude that political…
“International humanitarian organizations’ perspectives on localization efforts”
The humanitarian sector has formulated a collective strategic intent to localize. This involves delegating responsibilities and transferring capacities and resources to national and local actors. However, progress is slower than expected. Strategy execution is hard, and translating a general strategic intent to the actual way humanitarian organizations operate is not obvious. To suggest remedies for the slow progress, this paper investigates driv…
Consistency of dominance rank order
In nonhuman primate social groups, dominance ranks are usually assigned to individuals based on outcomes of dyadic agonistic encounters. Multiple approaches have been used, but currently there is no consensus. One approach, David's Scores (DS), offers dual advantages of yielding cardinal scores that may in turn be used to compute hierarchical steepness. Here we correlate rank orders yielded by DS with those yielded by both the traditionally used …
P2-482 Evaluating a school based RCT to reduce gender-based violence among high school students in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (SA)
Gender-based violence is a public health problem in South Africa associated with increased risk of HIV infection. KwaZulu-Natal is the epicentre of the HIV epidemic in South Africa with youth of 15–24 years at high risk of infection. A school based RCT aimed to develop, implement and evaluate an intervention to reduce gender-based violence, defined as verbal (belittling), physical (hitting) and sexual (forced sex) abuse, among grade 9 students. S…
Captive and wild orangutan ( Pongo sp.) survivorship
For managers of captive populations it is important to know whether their management provides a species with the physical and social environment that maximizes its survivorship. To determine this, survivorship comparisons with wild populations and long‐term evaluations of captive populations are important. Here we provide both for orangutans. We show that survivorship has increased during the past 60 years for captive orangutan populations in zoo…
Determinants of smoking among adolescents in the Southern Cape-Karoo region, South Africa
Tobacco control programmes in multi-ethnic societies must take into account ethnic differences in the determinants of smoking. The I-Change Model, an extension of the Theory of Planned Behaviour, was used to investigate the factors related to smoking among a sample of 3378 Black African, Coloured and White, monthly and non-monthly smokers in the Southern Cape-Karoo Region, South Africa. Across the ethnic groups, non-monthly smokers reported a mor…
Dominance and its Behavioral Measures in a Captive Group of Bonobos (Pan paniscus)
The reach and effectiveness of a national mass media-led smoking cessation campaign in The Netherlands
OBJECTIVES: This study examined the reach, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of a mass media-led smoking cessation campaign including television shows, a television clinic, a quit line, local group programs, and a comprehensive publicity campaign. METHODS: A random sample of baseline smokers (n = 1338) was interviewed before and after the campaign and at a 10-month follow-up. A nonpretested control group (n = 508) of baseline smokers was inco…
Measuring support for tobacco control policy in selected areas of six countries
It is possible to develop appropriate and meaningful measurement tools for assessing support of tobacco control policies. Strong evidence was found for internal reliability and structural invariance of the SPI. The SPI may be a useful mechanism for monitoring ongoing policy initiatives, making cross-cultural comparisons, and evaluating population receptiveness to proposed policy approaches

evidence on which we can base probabilities or even certainties rather than mere vague or hypothetical conclusions. Let us take another example-that of polyphony. Where is it found (and the maps must be on a large enough scale to permit detailed localization)? What is the geographic distribution of each type of polyphony (simple, double, fixed, oscillating bourdon; parallel fourths, fifths, or other intervals; contrary motion; of two, three or mo…
