  • Introduction. Witchcraft, Magic, Divination and the Twenty-First Century

Open Access•Tünde Komáromi, Ileana Benga et al.•ARTICLE•Martor The Museum of the Romanian…•2023•References: 6

Magic, witchcraft, and divination have been intensely exploited fields throughout the history of anthropological thought. One of the relevance for focusing on this topic in the twenty-first century is that no other field could connect better postmodernity to the past and present of “traditional” societies; another possible focal point is that the magic and witchcraft practices give voice to represent fine recorders for social change within contem…

Open Access•Gréta Vaskor, Tünde Komáromi•ARTICLE•Martor The Museum of the Romanian…•2023

Fairy tales (and other narratives) are used as therapeutic tools in therapy. Stories about witches and magic, including spells, mobilize the emotions and the mind of the patient and help them providing patterns and suggesting solutions. This interview is a dialog between an anthropologist specialized in the anthropology of witchcraft and magic and a psychotherapist trained in family and individual therapy using fairy tale therapy in combination w…

  • Marriage and Magic in a Transylvanian Village

    Open Access•Tünde Komáromi•ARTICLE•Martor The Museum of the Romanian…•2023•References: 3

In this study I present the possibilities of magical influence on marriages, based on my fieldwork in a Transylvanian village. I investigate how, according to the villagers, the creation and dissolution of marriages can be magically influenced, and how they use magic to interpret the delay of the marriage, conflicts between spouses, broken relationships, and the death of a spouse. The location of the research is a village with an ethnically and r…

  • In search of moral balance

    Tünde Komáromi•ARTICLE•Acta Ethnographica Hungarica•2011•References: 5

In this paper I return to the question of church adherence and conversion adding ethnographic depth to my discussion with the intention of making some generalisations. In a previous paper (Komáromi 2011a) I reflected on the relationship between possession and conversion and I presented the cases of two women. Beginning with this paper I would like to broaden the perspective on conversion and relate the processes involved more generally to life cr…

  • Spreading grace’ in post‐Soviet Russia (Respond to this article at http

    Open Access•M Benovska, Milena Benovska‐Sabkova et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropology Today•2010•Cited by: 4•References: 16

The article addresses the revival of Russian Orthodoxy as a prominent domain in the lives of many Russians. The six authors are interested in the underlying question: What makes Russian Orthodoxy a relevent and modern source of morality and identity? The circumstances of this branch of Christianity significantly differ from what has been discussed in recent years as ‘the anthropology of Christianity’. The article proposes a thematic approach in o…
