  • Sweet and sour Policy entrepreneurship and the case of food labelling law in Israel

Ofir Shamir, Omri Shamir et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Public…•2025

Globally, doctors have been warning policymakers and the public about the dangers of consuming products high in saturated fat, salt, and sugar, which contribute to obesity and various diseases. Consequently, numerous countries have adopted policies aimed at reducing the consumption of such products. This issue sparked public debate in Israel when, in 2016, the Israeli Minister of Health announced: "McDonald's out! Not in our country" and declared…

Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) have experienced a rapid surge in Israel, swiftly gaining a significant foothold in the market. This dominance of Chinese brands within Israel's EV sector is driven by recent market dynamics and their compelling product offerings. Factors such as the affordability and quality of these vehicles, the growing China-Israel ties, Israel's technological expertise, and its strategic position as a gateway to Europe all con…

    Open Access•Michal Neubauer-Shani, Ofir Shamir et al.•ARTICLE•Political Research Exchange•2021•References: 7

Non-decision making, as a worldwide public policy pattern, has been gathering attention in the research field of late. In Israel, we are witnessing various issues in which the status quo is, in effect, maintained, often with the intention and design of the interested players. In the absence of a constitutional separation between religion and state, and the lack of a comprehensive law articulating exactly what the public sphere should look like on…

  • Israel is too expensive for us? Political consumerism, public policy and entrepreneurship

    Ofir Shamir, Omri Shamir•ARTICLE•Israel Affairs•2017•References: 19

All over the world, political consumerism is on the rise and so is the number of studies. Until the summer of 2011, the use of consumer power in Israel was very limited and political scientists did not focus on it enough. But the social protest and the cottage cheese boycott during that summer were a different experience. Analysing this boycott as a case study, the paper examines the question “Why do political entrepreneurs, the boycott organizer…

  • Value for money

    Open Access•Guy Ben-Porat, Ofir Shamir et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Culture•2014•References: 18

Studies of political consumerism and of political consumers tend to ask general questions about motivations and tendencies among specific segments of society and investigate the likelihood of the political attitudes of specific social identities to affect consumer choices. In contrast, we examine how political consumerism is influenced by both individual characteristics and the communities in which these individuals live. In addition, we explore …

  • Days of (un) Rest

Open Access•Guy Ben Porat, Ofir Shamir et al.•ARTICLE•Politics and Religion•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 26

In spite of legal limitations, commerce in Israel on the Sabbath has expanded significantly in the past two decades. This secular development is counteracted by religious boycotts of stores operating on the Sabbath. Using Ulrich Beck's concept of sub-politics, we explain the shift away from the formal political realm, a result of a deadlocked political system that is no longer able to regulate boundaries between the religious and secular realm. A…

Such prosperity, whole emporia dedicated to cheeses, ribbons, Shaker furniture, is protection of a sort. This commercial wellbeing is robust and will defend itself to the last. It isn't rationalism
