This paper responds to Danny Gellersen’s “A Peculiar People” by exploring parallel dynamics of visibility and invisibility in analytic embodiment. Drawing on the author’s experiences as a mixed-race Indigenous, gay, former ballet dancer, and tattooed analyst, the paper examines how bodies marked as “peculiar” function in the consulting room. Implicit Biases Toward Aging-Related Stimuli Correspond With Anxiety About Aging and Ageism
There is a surprising lack of measures to assess ageism, particularly implicit measures designed to capture automatic associations. The central aim of this study was to establish the relationship between implicit and explicit measures of ageism and aging anxiety. We recruited 205 adults aged 18-67 years by crowdsourcing (M age = 37.5, SD age = 10.7; 45% cisgender women). Participants completed a go/no-go association task (GNAT) assessing negative…

This paper was developed as part of a panel for the International Psychoanalytic Association’s (IPA) 53rd Congress in July 2023. In this paper I discuss treatment with students from the American University of Afghanistan as part of a team at New York University’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. The paper reviews the themes that I identified while working with three students from the university. The themes include issues …
