The fourth‐dimensional ontology of sankofa epistemology
Debates about the metaphysical and ontological status of the principles of noncontradiction, excluded middle, identity, sufficient reason, and the identity of indiscernibles raise logical and substantive issues of interest in Western philosophy. The vast majority of scholars in African studies today utilize the explanatory categories of Europe to promote an understanding of Africa, its histories, social and political institutions, and cultures. In a series of essays, lectures and books, Cheikh Anta Diop's correctly argued against this approach, contending that it is inimical to the elucidation of the specific character of Africa's material culture, and the deeper philosophical structure …
Questions of Identity and Inheritance
Judeo-Christian and Anglo-Saxon forms of marriage have injected patrilineal values and companionate expectations into the Akan matrilineal family structure. As Anthony Appiah demonstrates, these infusions have generated severe strains in the matrikin social structures and, in extreme cases, resulted in the break up of families. In this essay, I investigate the ideological politics at play in this patrilinealization of Asante society
