The Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Synthesis Report (SYR) of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is a component of the SYR which provides a policy-relevant but policy-neutral summary of the SYR. It is consistent with the Sections of the SYR and is approved line by line by the Governments at a plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Katherine Calvin, Dipak Dasgupta et al.•REPORT•2023

The Synthesis Report (SYR) is a stand-alone synthesis of the most policy-relevant evidence from the scientific, technical, and socio-economic literature assessed in the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The SYR distils and integrates the main findings of the three reports of the Working Groups of the IPCC during the AR6, and the three AR6 Special Reports into a concise document. It consists of …

  • Diversify or die: Strategy options for oil majors in the sustainable energy transition

    Open Access•Krista Halttunen, Ruth Slade et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 17

Mitigating climate change requires an urgent transition of the oil and gas industry. We develop two typologies of the corporate strategy and diversification options for international oil companies (IOCs) in the sustainable energy transition. Data from semi-structured interviews with oil industry professionals are thematically analysed and considered in the context of the wider literature. The resulting framework of corporate strategy options is m…

  • Agent-Based Modelling of Future Dairy and Plant-Based Milk Consumption for UK Climate Targets

Open Access•Matthew Gibson, Joana Portugal‐Pereira et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Artificial Societies…•2022

A reduction in the production and consumption of meat and dairy across much of the world is critical for climate change mitigation, the alleviation of ecological stress, and improved health. We update an agentbased model (ABM) of historic UK milk consumption and apply it to scenarios of dairy reduction and adoption of plant-based milk (PBM) out to . The updated model is comprised of a cognitive function, where agents perceive the physical, health…

  • We don't want to be the bad guys”: Oil industry's sensemaking of the sustainability transition paradox

    Open Access•Krista Halttunen, Ruth Slade et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 26

The operating model of the global oil industry is not compatible with the goals of the Paris Agreement. For the industry, there is a fundamental tension between two competing mandates: the pressure to contribute to the social goal of climate change mitigation, and the need to perform financially and meet obligations to shareholders in activities that directly contribute to climate change. To explore the range of responses to the tension, we inter…

  • A review of trends and drivers of greenhouse gas emissions by sector from 1990 to 2018

Open Access•William F Lamb, Thomas Wiedmann et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

Global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions can be traced to five economic sectors: energy, industry, buildings, transport and AFOLU (agriculture, forestry and other land uses). In this topical review, we synthesise the literature to explain recent trends in global and regional emissions in each of these sectors. To contextualise our review, we present estimates of GHG emissions trends by sector from 1990 to 2018, describing the major sources of emissi…

  • Comparing Mechanisms of Food Choice in an Agent-Based Model of Milk Consumption and Substitution in the UK

Open Access•Matthew Gibson, Ruth Slade et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Artificial Societies…•2021

Substitution of food products will be key to realising widespread adoption of sustainable diets. We present an agent-based model of decision-making and influences on food choice, and apply it to historically observed trends of British whole and skimmed (including semi) milk consumption from to . We aim to give a plausible representation of milk choice substitution, and test di erent mechanisms of choice consideration. Agents are consumers that pe…
