Two Possible Variability Processes in the Earlier Egyptian Mortuary Texts
In this paper, two variability processes are presented in phonographemics, and semantics, with possible relevance for the linguistic diachrony of the Earlier Egyptian mortuary texts: the Pyramid Texts and Coffin Texts. Data and tentative interpretation are provided on the various spellings of the theonym Hapy and the related term bʿḥ ‘inundation’, and the alternative markers ỉn / ḫr for specific agents in passive structures
CT 335 on the Head Side of Inner Coffin A7A From Qubbet el-Hawa (QH31/15/S5/UE21/30)
A new witness of a part of the CT 335 spell, the most frequent of Coffin Text spells as far as we know, has recently been found on the head (north) side of an inner coffin from the tomb QH31 at Qubbet el-Hawa. Imagining Henenu
The epigraphic work undertaken in the tomb of Henenu (TT313) during the fourth campaign of the Middle Kingdom Theban Project in April 2018 at Deir El Bahari (Luxor, Egypt) by the Universidad de Alcalá (Madrid) is presented. Henenu served as royal steward to the Eleventh Dynasty king Mentuhotep II. Coffin Text instances of the expressions im.y-wr.t (‘3) and t3-wr (‘3) in the context of the solar circuit are discussed. In this corpus, these terms consistently follow a geographical frame of orientation that is the same in the Underworld as in the real world, contrary to other basic human functions which are inverted in the Underworld.
