Evaluating chikungunya outbreak size and emergency vaccination strategies in Miami
While empirical validation is not yet possible due to the absence of large-scale outbreaks in Miami, our exploratory modeling provides forward-looking insights into how outbreaks might unfold and how emergency vaccination could mitigate their impact. This scenario-based framework should be viewed as an early evaluation to inform preparedness discussions, stimulate further research, and guide proactive public health strategies in Miami and other s…
Building community capacity to stimulate physical activity and dietary behavior in Dutch secondary schools
Background: Building community capacity in secondary schools is a promising strategy for the sustainable implementation of school-based health promotion. The Fit Lifestyle at School and at Home (FLASH) intervention explored how building community capacity works for the prevention of overweight following four strategies: leadership, participatory school culture, tailored health-promotion activities, and local networks. This study evaluates the int…
Job Demands, Work Functioning and Mental Health in Dutch Nursing Home Staff during the Covid-19 Outbreak
COVID-19 posed enormous challenges for nursing home staff, which may have caused stress and mental health problems. This study aimed to measure the prevalence of mental health problems among nursing home staff and investigate the differences in job demands, work functioning and mental health between staff with and without COVID contact or COVID infection and across different levels of COVID worries. In this cross-sectional study, 1669 employees f…
Prenatal Exposure to Perfluoroalkyl Substances and Behavioral Development in Children
RESULTS from the current study show that prenatal exposure to PFOA was negatively related to externalizing behavior in boys. RESULTS were different for boys and girls, emphasizing that mechanisms at work might be sex-dependent. However, results should be interpreted with caution as the sample size was small
Effectiveness of a problem-solving based intervention to prolong the working life of ageing workers
The trial is registered with the Dutch Trial Register under number NTR2270
First Year Growth in Relation to Prenatal Exposure to Endocrine Disruptors — A Dutch Prospective Cohort Study
Growth in the first year of life may already be predictive of obesity later in childhood. The objective was to assess the association between prenatal exposure to various endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and child growth during the first year. Dichloro-diphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), mono(2-ethyl-5-carboxypentyl)phthalate (MECPP), mono(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl)phthalate (MEHHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl)phthalate (MEOHP), polychlorinated biphen…
Predictors of sickness absence in college and university educated self-employed
Sickness absence was found to be related to demographic variables (gender, profession), medical variables (health complaints and erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and to variables with both a medical and a behavioural component (previous sickness absence)
Active video games as a tool to prevent excessive weight gain in adolescents
Dutch Trial register NTR3228
Process evaluation of a problem solving intervention to prevent recurrent sickness absence in workers with common mental disorders
Sustained employability of workers in a production environment
The trial is registered at the Dutch Trial Register (http://www.trialregister.nl): NTR3445

Portion size and caloric GDA labelling were found to have no effect on soft drink intake. Further research among a larger group of participants combined with pricing strategies is required. The results of this study are relevant for the current public health debate on food labelling
Additional psychometric information and vision-specific questionnaires are available for age-related macular degeneration
The results on DIF and the additional studies presented here confirm that a specific eye disorder is of minor importance in the choice of a vision-specific questionnaire or, in this case, a literature search
Quality criteria were proposed for measurement properties of health status questionnaires
Evaluation of Cross-sectional and Longitudinal Construct Validity of Two Vision-related Quality of Life Questionnaires
Coevolution of Firm Absorptive Capacity and Knowledge Environment
This paper advances the understanding of absorptive capacity for assimilating new knowledge as a mediating variable of organization adaptation. Many scholars suggest a firm's absorptive capacity plays a key role in the process of coevolution (Lewin et al., this issue). So far, most publications, in following Cohen and Levinthal (1990), have considered the level of prior related knowledge as the determinant of absorptive capacity. We suggest, howe…
