  • Migrant integration policies, regional social disadvantage, ethnicity and psychosis risk

    Open Access•Salomé M Xavier, Hannah E Jongsma et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Mental Health•2025

Compared with individual-level factors, macro-level exposures have received less attention in research on the increased risk of psychosis among ethnic minorities. We aimed to investigate the impact of migrant integration policies and area-level social deprivation on higher incidence rates among ethnic minorities. This study, conducted between 2010 and 2015, analysed incidence data from five countries from the EUropean network of national schizoph…

  • Diverging effects of mentalization based treatment for patients with borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia

Open Access•Jonas Weijers, Jonas G Weijers et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Patients with BPD performed better after receiving MBT on three dimensions of mentalizing capacity than SCZ patients who received MBT. Remarkably, SCZ patients who received MBT performed better on one dimension of mentalizing capacity compared to SCZ patients who did not receive MBT. Whereas MBT for BPD clearly involves improvement on most aspects of mentalizing, MBT for SCZ seems to thwart a further decline of other-oriented, cognitive mentalizi…

  • The contribution of cannabis use to variation in the incidence of psychotic disorder across Europe (EU-GEI)

Open Access•Marta Di Forti, Diego Quattrone et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Psychiatry•2019

BACKGROUND: Cannabis use is associated with increased risk of later psychotic disorder but whether it affects incidence of the disorder remains unclear. We aimed to identify patterns of cannabis use with the strongest effect on odds of psychotic disorder across Europe and explore whether differences in such patterns contribute to variations in the incidence rates of psychotic disorder. METHODS: -tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the different types o…

  • Reported Childhood Abuse and Stress Reactivity in Psychosis

Open Access•Jonas Weijers, Wolfgang Viechtbauer et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

A previous study observed that reported childhood abuse moderated psychotic and emotional reactivity to stress among patients with non-affective psychotic disorder. However, that study used a type of analysis unsuited for skewed data. This study aimed (1) to replicate the study and (2) to examine whether we would obtain similar results using a statistical approach better suited to skewed data. Fifty-nine patients with non-affective psychotic diso…

  • Prescription and Underprescription of Clozapine in Dutch Ambulatory Care

Open Access•Yvonne C van der Zalm, Fabian Termorshuizen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

Purpose: To our knowledge, no study has examined in a structured way the extent of underprescription of clozapine in ambulatory patients with Non-Affective Psychotic Disorder (NAPD). In the Netherlands, psychiatric care for such patients is provided by Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) teams and by early intervention teams. In 20 FACT teams and 3 early intervention teams we assessed the proportion of patients who: use clozapine (type …
