  • Non-participation in breast screening in Denmark

Open Access•My von Euler‐Chelpin, George Napolitano et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The U-shaped association between education and non-participation in breast screening prevailed. The data further indicated that screening participation was low in women with pertinent health and social problems

  • Emergence of a mortality disparity between a marginal rural area and the rest of Denmark, 1968-2017

Open Access•Therese Lucia Friis Holmager, Lau Caspar Thygesen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

This study is the first to report on increasing geographical segregation in all-cause mortality in a Nordic welfare state. Development of the mortality disparity between Lolland-Falster and the rest of Denmark followed changes in agriculture, industrial company closure, a shipyard close-down, administrative centralisation, and a decreasing population size

  • Does Lolland-Falster make people sick, or do sick people move to Lolland-Falster? An example of selective migration and mortality in Denmark, 1968-2017

Open Access•Therese Lucia Friis Holmager, Søren Nymand Lophaven et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 17

Long-term selective in-migration of vulnerable persons was behind the gradual build-up of the currently high mortality in Lolland-Falster compared to the rest of Denmark. In particular, people of working age in-migrating to Lolland-Falster contributed to this disparity

  • Burden of prediabetes, undiagnosed, and poorly or potentially sub-controlled diabetes

Open Access•Elsebeth Lynge, Neda Esmailzadeh Bruun-Rasmussen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

In the Lolland-Falster Health Study, nearly 10% of participants had prediabetes, undiagnosed diabetes, poorly controlled, or potentially sub-controlled diabetes. The risk of these conditions was more than doubled in persons with self-reported poor health perception, self-reported hypertension, low leisure time physical activity, or measured obesity, and a large proportion of people with diabetes-related conditions in need of intervention can ther…

  • Variation in Nordic Work-Related Cancer Risks after Adjustment for Alcohol and Tobacco

Open Access•Kristina Kjaerheim, Tor Haldorsen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Background : Alcohol and tobacco strongly increases the risk of cancers of the tongue, mouth, pharynx, larynx, and oesophagus, and are also established risk factors for cancer of the liver, colon, and rectum. It is well documented that these habits are unequally distributed among occupational groups. Most occupational cohort studies lack information on these potentially important confounders, and may therefore be prone to bias. Aim : The aim of t…

  • A qualitative exploration of personality factors in breast cancer screening behavior

Open Access•Mitra Savabi-Esfahani, Fariba Taleghani et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2018

Although the efficacy of breast cancer screening in Iran has improved, the participation of women is not yet at a satisfactory level. Some personality factors can prevent women from attending breast cancer screening and most tumors are still diagnosed at an advanced stage. We conducted a descriptive exploration study in which we recruited healthcare providers, policymakers, and clients in Iran as participants. We used conventional content analysi…

  • The Danish National Patient Register

Open Access•Elsebeth Lynge, Jakob Lynge Sandegaard et al.•ARTICLE•Scandinavian Journal of Public…•2011

Introduction: The Danish National Patient Register (NPR) was established in 1977, and it is considered to be the finest of its kind internationally. Content: At the onset the register included information on inpatient in somatic wards. The content of the register has gradually been expanded, and since 2007 the register has included information on all patients in Danish hospitals. Validity and coverage: Although the NPR is overall a sound data sou…

  • SP1-7 Pesticide exposure in farming and forestry and the risk of uveal melanoma

Thomas Behrens, Elsebeth Lynge et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction Since pesticides are disputed risk factors for uveal melanoma, we studied the association between occupational pesticide exposure and uveal melanoma risk in a case-control study from nine European countries. Methods Incident cases of uveal melanoma and population as well as hospital controls were included and frequency-matched by country, 5-year age groups and sex. Self-reported exposure was quantified with respect to duration of exp…

  • High and low risk groups for cancer of colon and rectum in Denmark

Anders Mellemgaard, Gerda Engholm et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1988•References: 9

Multiplicative Poisson models were used to identify subgroups of the Danish population at high and low risk of developing cancer of the right or left side of the colon, and cancer of the rectum. The analysis was based on cross-linked data from the 1970 census and the Danish Cancer Registry, where a 10-year follow-up period yielded some 20,000 colo-rectal cancers, in approximately 2.5 million persons. The risk of cancer of the right side of the co…
