  • Sex bias in the management of coronary artery disease in Quebec

    William D’Hoore, C Sicotte et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1994•References: 4

This study tests the hypothesis that, given the absence of financial barriers to major coronary procedures in Quebec, women are as likely as men to undergo such procedures. The use of coronary procedures in 33,940 patients with ischemic heart disease, admitted during 1 year to 78 Quebec hospitals, was analyzed. The male-to-female age- and severity-adjusted odds ratios for the use of these procedures were 1.47 for diagnostic procedures, 1.38 for t…

  • Évaluation des effets d’un système d’information clinique sur l’activite médico-hospitalière

Claude Sicotte, Raynald Pineault et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Program…•1992

We have analyzed the impact of a clinical information system designed to give feedback on profiles of medical practice in two hospitals. The system was planned to use group influence to induce change among deviant physicians. The information system failed to modify the physician’s practice profiles. A large part of this failure is linked to the small variation recorded in utilization patterns among physicians. Medical practice appears to be quite…

  • Aids Knowledge and Homophobia among French and American University Students

    Open Access•GILLETTE CONNER, Charles L Richman et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1990

22 male American and 24 male French college students' knowledge of AIDS scores were equivalent on a currently constructed 18-item questionnaire. Both groups answered more than 75% of the questions correctly. The American students' homophobic bias and reaction scores were higher than those of the French students on a 43-item homophobic questionnaire. The latter findings were interpreted as consistent with reduced effects of conservative, orthodox …

  • Traits Associated with Men and Women

    Open Access•John E Williams, D L Best et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1981•References: 6

The association of certain psychological traits with men and others with women was studied among 4285- and 8-year-old children in 5 European countries. Subjects were read 32 stories, each representing a particular trait (e.g., aggressive, emotional), and following each story they selected between male and female silhouettes as being "the person the story is about." The findings indicated substantial cross-national similarity in the traits ascribe…

  • Sex-Trait Stereotypes in France, Germany, and Norway

    Open Access•John E Williams, John T Daws et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1979•Cited by: 9•References: 6

Previous studies in the United States, England, and Ireland had demonstrated a high degree of cross-national generality in sex-trait stereotypes, i.e., the psychological traits which are differentially ascribed to men and women (e.g., men are aggressive, women are emotional, and the like). The present article reports on similar studies conducted with university student subjects in France, Germany, and Norway who were given translated versions of …

  • Validation of a Patient Classification Through Evaluation of the Nursing Staff Degree of Occupation

    Monique Chagnon, Lise-Marie Audette et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1978

The instrument of evaluation of the degree of occupation of nursing staff is centered on the activities of the staff. It generates an index indicating how "busy" the staff is during a given shift on a particular unit. It can be used to validate a patient classification system by level of nursing resources requirements

  • Modeling Health Services Systems

    Charles Tilquin•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1976

A conceptual model for the analysis of personal and collective health services systems is proposed. By placing existing formal models in the framework of this conceptual model, we emphasized their qualities and shortcomings. We discussed the normative and descriptive approach of formal modeling. Finally we emphasized the close conceptual parallel that exists between personal and collective health services systems
