  • Sexual Assertiveness and Sexual Victimization Across Different Life Stages

Léna Nagy, Ateret Gewirtz‐meydan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sexual…•2026

Objectives A growing body of research indicate that experiencing sexual victimization may be linked to lower levels of sexual assertiveness, yet significant gaps remain in understanding how this association varies across the life stages in which one is victimized, gender identities, and cultural contexts. Prior studies have primarily focused on cisgender women from Western countries, mainly examined adolescent/adult sexual assault (AASA), and emp…

    Jesús Castro‐calvo, Patricia Beltrán-Martínez et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Sexual desire is a complex construct with important implications for sexual functioning and well-being. Motivations for pornography use may vary across gender identities, sexual orientations, and geographical regions, warranting examination to promote individual and public health. Using data from 42 countries (N = 75,117; Mage = 32.07; …

  • Cross-cultural Validation of the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (Asex) in 42 Countries and 26 Languages

    Open Access•Rafael Ballester-Arnal, Marcel Elipe‐miravet et al.•ARTICLE•Sexuality Research and Social…•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 3

Introduction The Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX) is a brief questionnaire that evaluates five major aspects of sexual function: sex drive, arousal, erectile function/vaginal lubrication, ability to reach orgasm, and satisfaction with orgasm. An advantage of the ASEX is its simplicity and brevity (five items), making it suitable for the screening of sexual function problems in healthcare contexts and large-scale studies. The main objective…

    Open Access•Eva Paulisova, Olga Orosova•ARTICLE•Polish Psychological Bulletin•2023

The presented study is based on three theoretical approaches: the sociocultural model of eating disorders, self- determination theory and objectification theory. The study has two aims. Firstly, to test a model of body dissatisfaction in women based on these theories and secondly, to experimentally examine the effect of low-intensity fat talk on body dissatisfaction and its related variables. The results showed that body surveillance and self-det…

The analysis showed that personal normative beliefs and des…

  • A feasibility trial to examine the social norms approach for the prevention and reduction of licit and illicit drug use in European University and college students

  • Selected sociodemographic factors and related differences in patterns of alcohol use among university students in Slovakia

Open Access•René Šebeňa, Olga Orosova et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Additionally, it appears that frequent alcohol use, excessive alcohol use (heavy episodic drinking and drunkenness) and problem drinking among university students represent a continuum and are influenced by the same sociodemographic factors

  • Predictors of health-endangering behaviour among Roma and non-Roma adolescents in Slovakia by gender

Peter Kolarcik, Andrea Madarasova Geckova et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2010•References: 35

BACKGROUND: Roma people are commonly described as having an unhealthy lifestyle-for example, an unhealthy diet, intensive smoking, frequent alcohol consumption and a lack of physical activity. However, data about such health-endangering behaviours among Roma adolescents are scarce and of poor quality. The aim of our study is to assess the occurrence of health-endangering behaviours among Slovak Roma adolescents in comparison to non-Roma adolescen…

  • Psychological and behavioural factors associated with sexual risk behaviour among Slovak students

Open Access•Ondrej Kalina, Andrea Madarasova Geckova et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2009

Results suggest that behavioural factors are more closely related to SRB than psychological factors. Associations differ by type of SRB and gender but offer few clues to target risk groups for inconsistent condom use. Results show a high need for health-promotion programmes in early adolescence that target SRB in conjunction with other health risk behaviours such as alcohol abuse
