Immigration and access to dementia diagnostics and treatment
Compared to Swedish-born people, foreign-born people were less likely to receive dementia diagnostic tests.•Being born in Africa or Europe was associated with lower chance of receiving cholinesterase inhibitors.•Asian-born people had higher chance of receiving cholinesterase inhibitors, but were less likely to receive memantine.•Disparities existed in dementia diagnostics and treatment between Swedish-born and foreign-born people, but were not co…
Individual characteristics, area social participation, and primary non-concordance with medication
Our results indicate that people in central Sweden with younger age, financial difficulties, low self-rated health, and low trust in the health care system may have a higher probability of primary non-concordance with medication. However, the area of residence--as defined by administrative boundaries--seems to play a minor role for primary non-concordance
A brief conceptual tutorial of multilevel analysis in social epidemiology
Study objective: In social epidemiology, it is easy to compute and interpret measures of variation in multilevel linear regression, but technical difficulties exist in the case of logistic regression. The aim of this study was to present measures of variation appropriate for the logistic case in a didactic rather than a mathematical way. Design and participants: Data were used from the health survey conducted in 2000 in the county of Scania, Swed…
Anxiolytic-hypnotic drug use associated with trust, social participation, and the miniaturization of community
Low adherence with antihypertensives in actual practice
Low social participation seems to be associated with low adherence with antihypertensives during the last two weeks, and this association may be modified by the municipality of residence. Future studies aimed at investigating health-related behaviours in general and low adherence with medication in particular might benefit if they consider area of residence
Neighbourhood social participation and women’s use of anxiolytic-hypnotic drugs
Study objectives: To identify and quantify a hypothesised collective effect of the neighbourhood on individual use of anxiolytic-hypnotic drugs (AHD). To analyse the general impact of neighbourhood social participation on use of AHD, adjusting for individual characteristics. Design: Cross sectional analysis performed by multilevel logistic regression with women at the first level and neighbourhoods at the second level. Setting: Malmö (250 000 inh…
