  • The cost-effectiveness of interventions used for the screening, diagnosis and management of anaemia in pregnancy

Open Access•Connor Luke Allen, Katherine Eddy et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

An estimated 40% of pregnant women worldwide are anaemic, of which 80% live in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The reality of finite health budgets, particularly in low-resource settings, means that interventions used for screening, diagnosing, and treating anaemia in pregnancy need to be informed by cost-effectiveness evidence. We conducted a systematic review to identify all studies evaluating the cost-effectiveness of managing anaemi…

  • How do women, men, and health providers perceive interventions to influence men's engagement in maternal and newborn health? A qualitative evidence synthesis

    Open Access•Liz Comrie-Thomson, Prerna Gopal et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2021•References: 71

Globally, there is growing awareness of the important contributions men can make as key stakeholders in maternal and newborn health (MNH), and increased investment in interventions designed to influence men's engagement to improve MNH outcomes. Interventions typically target men, women, couples or health providers, yet how these stakeholders perceive and experience interventions is not well understood and the fact that women may experience these …

  • Against Ideal Rights

    Katherine Eddy•ARTICLE•Social Theory and Practice•2008

In the first part of the paper I argue that ideal rights are not real rights. Put another way, my claim is that adopting an ‘ideal theory’ approach to the analysis of rights will yield an implausible and overly expansive catalogue of rights. Rights are unique in that they are associated with moral urgency and pre-emptiveness; to adopt an ideal account would leave us with rights that lacked these distinctive conceptual features

  • On revaluing the currency of human rights

    Open Access•Katherine Eddy•ARTICLE•Politics Philosophy & Economics•2007•Cited by: 1

In a recent spate of reflective writings on the concept of human rights, philosophers have been concerned to firm up the analytical boundaries of human rights discourse, without excluding welfare rights from the catalogue. The article considers three of these recent attempts to `revalue the currency' of human rights: the agency conception, the pluralist conception, and the negative duties conception. It ultimately defends a `dignity-based' accoun…
