Age, period, and cohort effects on trends in outpatient addiction care utilization in the general Berlin population from 2008 to 2016
Age and cohort effects were the strongest drivers of trends in AUD- and ISUD-related outpatient addiction care utilization. Onset of help-seeking in earlier phases of AUD development should be enhanced as well as help-seeking for AUD and ISUD in general. The highest cohort-related rates in the baby boomer and following cohorts for AUD and ISUD underline an increased demand for addiction care
Substance use disorder and the baby boom generation: Does Berlin outpatient addiction care face a sustained change
Evaluation of Screening Tests in Bavarian Healthcare Facilities during the Second Wave of the Sars-CoV-2 Pandemic
Due to the lack of data on asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2-positive persons in healthcare institutions, they represent an inestimable risk. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to evaluate the first 1,000,000 reported screening tests of asymptomatic staff, patients, residents, and visitors in hospitals and long-term care (LTC) facilities in the State of Bavaria over a period of seven months. Data were used from the online database BayCoRei (Bavari…
Change in exposure of children to second-hand smoke with impact on children’s health and change in parental smoking habits after smoking ban in Bavaria – a multiple cross-sectional study
After 11 years of smoking ban in Bavaria, smoking displacement to homes was disproved. Exposure of children to SHS intrauterine and at home is decreasing. Number of parents who are not actively smoking is increasing over time. Prevalence of health problems in children related to exposure to SHS is decreasing
Hip fractures and area level socioeconomic conditions: A population-based study
Our results showed weak associations between indicators of socioeconomic conditions at area level and hip fracture risk; the varied by type of indicator. We conclude that hip fracture incidence might be influenced by the socioeconomic context of a region, but further analysis using more specific markers for deprivation on a smaller scale and individual-level data are needed
Development of a questionnaire for quantitative assessment in the field of health and human rights
Health rights dimensions are part of a valid evaluation of health insurance programmes in rural Guatemala
The interconnection between health and human rights is receiving increasing attention. Health rights aspects, especially regarding equitable access and participation, appear as important dimensions for the evaluation of health insurance programmes in developing countries. The study objective was to relate empirically derived dimensions of evaluation to human rights aspects. The evaluation of three health insurance programmes implemented in rural …

Estimating the incidence of hip fractures in East Germany from hospital discharge statistics
Hip fracture (proximal femoral fracture) is the most serious subtype of osteoporotic fractures. Its exponentially rising incidence with age is causing concern in countries with ageing populations.' 2 Although direct hospital costs for Germany have been estimated to be as high as 2 billion DM (1.2 billion US$) per year, epi- demiological data for this "silent epidemic" are difficult to acquire.`5 The typical health related and social sequelae of p…
