  • Alcohol, Gender, and Cognitive Performance

Open Access•Gail E Bond, Robert Burr et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging and Health•2004•Cited by: 1•References: 3

This study provides support regarding the potential beneficial outcomes associated with alcohol consumption and cognition and that these benefits were not modified by gender or ethnicity

  • Wandering

REBECCA G LOGSDON, Linda Teri et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•1998•Cited by: 3•References: 2

This study evaluated the frequency, predictors, and effects of wandering in a population-based sample of 193 individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although wandering occurred in subjects at all levels of cognitive impairment, analysis of variance indicated that for the group as a whole, greater frequency of wandering was associated with significantly more impairment in cognition, day-to-day functioning, and behavior. Caregiver distress also …

  • Rapid Estimation of Hospitalization Charges From a Brief Medical Record Review

    Walter A Kukull, Thomas D Koepsell et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1986

In settings where an itemized hospital bill is not generated, estimation of hospitalization charges for research or administrative purposes can be a laborious task. This article examines the extent to which the number of hospital days spent outside an intensive care unit (ICU), number of days in an ICU, number of laboratory tests performed, number of x-rays, and number of surgeries can be used in a multiple regression equation to impute inpatient…

  • Outcome-Based Doctor-Patient Interaction Analysis

    Thomas S Inui, William B Carter et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1982

Interactional analysis (IA) systems have been devised and applied to doctor-patient dialogues to describe encounters and to relate process to outcomes. Prior work in this area has been typified by the use of a single taxonomy for classifying verbal behaviors and limited outcomes (compliance and/or satisfaction). We applied three different IA systems (Bales, Roter's modified Bales with affective ratings, and Stiles' "Verbal Response Modes") to 101…

  • Outcome-Based Doctor-Patient Interaction Analysis

    William B Carter, Thomas S Inui et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1982

Three interactional analysis (IA) systems (Bales', Roters modified Bales and Stiles' "Verbal response modes") were used to characterize behavioral elements of provider-patient dialogues of 101 new-patient visits in a general medical clinic. In a previous article, the explanatory power of these IA systems was compared. In this article, specific provider and patient behaviors within segments of the encounter (introduction-history, physical examinat…
