Perinatal mental health refers to the psychosocial processes that occur during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. • Precarity for the global talent: The impact of visa policies on high‐skilled immigrants’ work in the United States

    Open Access•Marcela F González•ARTICLE•International Migration•2021•Cited by: 11•References: 6

The current historical context of growing diversification of legal statuses for high‐skilled immigrants since the 1990s has made immigration to the United States a multi‐step process: first immigrants have temporary legal statuses, or no legal status, and only in a subsequent stage acquire legal permanent residency. I analyse the constraints this multi‐step legal trajectory puts on highly skilled immigrants’ work in the United States. Specificall…

  • High skilled immigrants' pathways from risky to secure legality in the United States

    Marcela F González•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2020•Cited by: 12•References: 14

Based on 30 semi-structured interviews, I analyse the stories high-skilled immigrants told about their legal trajectories since their arrival in the United States. I explain immigrants' two pathways from temporary or risky legality to permanent or secure legality: the Uninterrupted Pathway to Legalization and the Contingent Pathway to Legalization. Specifically, I explain how navigating a temporary, or risky, legality before acquiring permanent r…

Mario Carretero, Marcela F González et al.•ARTICLE•Culture and Education•2008•Cited by: 1
