Which ‘end’ do you have in mind? Clinical supervisors’ perceptions of Professional Identity Formation outcomes in GP residency
PURPOSE: Professional Identity Formation (PIF) is crucial for high-quality patient care and physician well-being. Few empirical studies examined PIF in residency from the perspective of supervisors. In GP residency, residents are supervised with an 'end in mind' that remains unexplored. To encourage supervisors to reflect on their teaching behaviours, this study investigated GP clinical supervisors' perceptions of PIF outcomes in GP residency. ME…
Stakeholder perspectives on payment reform in maternity care in the Netherlands: A Q-methodology study
Based on theoretical notions, there is consensus that alternative payment models to the common fee-for-service model have the potential to improve healthcare quality through increased collaboration and reduced under- and overuse. This is particularly relevant for maternity care in the Netherlands because perinatal mortality rates are relatively high in comparison to other Western countries. Therefore, an experiment with bundled payments for mater…
The introduction of a data-driven population health management approach in the Netherlands since 2019: The Extramural Lumc Academic Network data infrastructure
Improving population health and reducing inequalities through better integrated health and social care services is high up on the agenda of policymakers internationally. In recent years, regional cross-domain partnerships have emerged in several countries, which aim to achieve better population health, quality of care and a reduction in the per capita costs. These cross-domain partnerships aim to have a strong data foundation and are committed to…
“What kind of doctor do you want to become?”: Clinical supervisors’ perceptions of their roles in the professional identity formation of General Practice residents
PURPOSE: Supporting the development of a professional identity is a primary objective in postgraduate education. Few empirical studies have explored professional identity formation (PIF) in residency, and little is known about supervisors' perceptions of their roles in residents' PIF. In this study, we sought to understand how supervisors perceive their roles in the PIF of General Practice (GP) residents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Guided by principl…
Predictors of Persistent Somatic Symptoms in the General Population: A Systematic Review of Cohort Studies
The Effect and Cost-Effectiveness of Offering a Combined Lifestyle Intervention for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Primary Care: Results of the Healthy Heart Stepped-Wedge Trial
For both the shorter (3-6 months) and longer term (12-24 months), offering the Healthy Heart programme to high-cardiovascular-risk patients did not improve their lifestyle behaviour nor cardiovascular risk and was not cost-effective on a population level
Observational Data for Integrated Maternity Care: Experiences with a Data-Infrastructure for Parents and Children in the Netherlands
With DIAPER we demonstrated that using observational data can be of added value for integrated care research, but also that challenges remain. It is essential to keep exploring and developing the possibilities of observational data and continue the discussions in the scientific community. Learning from each other's successes and failures will be critical
Using Design Thinking for Co-Creating an Integrated Care Pathway Including Hospital at Home for Older Adults with an Acute Moderate-Severe Respiratory Infection in the Netherlands
Using design thinking and involving end-users during the whole process, we created an ICP for community-dwelling frail older people with moderate-severe acute respiratory infections. This resulted in three realistic patient journeys, including a hospital at home track, which will be implemented and evaluated in the near future
Parents' expected barriers to psychosocial care for children with complex problems
Background and objective Even though children with complex problems frequently need psychosocial care, two thirds does not receive treatment. Various barriers, particularly expectations of barriers, can hinder effective access of care. Our aim was to assess the practical barriers expected by parents, and the child, family and need factors associated with these expected barriers. Methods We sent web‐based questionnaires to parents of a random samp…
Making sense of a myocardial infarction in relation to changing lifestyle in the five months following the event: An interpretative phenomenological analysis
Cardiac patients may experience a TM, which is the consequence of interrelated processes of psychosocial sensemaking. As this does not occur at a singular time point, we suggest using the term 'teachable window' rather than 'moment'. Given these findings, there is a window of opportunity to provide continuous psychosocial and lifestyle support during and after hospitalization for acute cardiac events

Perspectives on cancer screening participation in a highly urbanized region: A Q-methodology study in The Hague, the Netherlands
Since CSPs will only be effective when participation rates are sufficiently high, it is essential to have insight into the different perspectives among potential respondents concerning partaking in a CSP. This study adds new insights concerning these perspectives and suggests several ideas for future optimization of the CSPs
The interplay between fast-food outlet exposure, household food insecurity and diet quality in disadvantaged districts
Objective: The current study aimed to explore the interplay between food insecurity, fast-food outlet exposure and dietary quality in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Design: In this cross-sectional study, main associations between fast-food outlet density and proximity, food insecurity status and dietary quality were assessed using Generalized Estimating Equation analyses. We assessed potential moderation by fast-food outlet exposure in the associa…

The Usefulness of Electronic Health Records From Preventive Youth Healthcare in the Recognition of Child Mental Health Problems
Background and Objectives: Early identification of child mental health problems (MHPs) is important to provide adequate, timely treatment. Dutch preventive youth healthcare monitors all aspects of a child's healthy development. We explored the usefulness of their electronic health records (EHRs) in scientific research and aimed to develop prediction models for child MHPs. Methods: Population-based cohort study with anonymously extracted electroni…
A systematic approach to context-mapping to prepare for health interventions: Development and validation of the Setting-tool in four countries
Effectiveness of health interventions can be substantially impaired by implementation failure. Context-driven implementation strategies are critical for successful implementation. However, there is no practical, evidence-based guidance on how to map the context in order to design context-driven strategies. Therefore, this practice paper describes the development and validation of a systematic context-mapping tool. The tool was cocreated with loca…
The Value of Merging Medical Data from Ambulance Services and General Practice Cooperatives Using Triple Aim Outcomes
The Triple Aim for acute care can be met using relatively simple interventions, but medical data merging is a prerequisite for achieving more robust results covering on the various aspects of the Triple Aim. These successes should be communicated so that a common language can be developed that will support the successful further implementation of larger scale initiatives
Effects of Technology Use on Ageing in Place: The iZi Pilots
In the iZi study in The Hague, use and acceptance of commercially available technology by home-dwelling older citizens was studied, by comparing self-efficacy and perceived physical and mental Quality of Life (QoL)-related parameters on an intervention location of 279 households and a control location of 301 households. Technology adoption was clinically significantly associated with increased perceived physical QoL, as compared with control grou…
Exploring food insecurity and obesity in Dutch disadvantaged neighborhoods: A cross-sectional mediation analysis
The findings of this study suggest an association between food insecurity and obesity. Living situation, diet quality and smoking status explained part, but not all, of the total association between food insecurity and obesity. Future longitudinal studies are warranted to examine the temporal order of the food insecurity-obesity association and potential mediators in this relationship. In addition, food insecurity and its potential consequences n…
Needs and perceptions regarding healthy eating among people at risk of food insecurity: A qualitative analysis
The insights from this study increase understanding of factors influencing eating behaviour of people at risk of food insecurity. Therefore, this study could inform future development of potential interventions aiming at helping people at risk of experiencing food insecurity to improve healthy eating, thereby decreasing the risk of diet-related diseases
