Short- and long-term neuropsychiatric outcomes in long Covid in South Korea and Japan
Early impact of Covid-19 social distancing on social determinants of health and their effects on mental health and quality of life of Korean undergraduate students
Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the association between social determinants of health and perception of COVID-19 social distancing/mental health/quality of life during COVID-19 social distancing in Korean undergraduate students using online survey data augmented with natural language processing. Methods: An online cross-sectional survey including sociodemographic characteristics, students' perceptions of COVID-19 social distancing, …
Predicting Unmet Healthcare Needs in Post-Disaster: A Machine Learning Approach
Unmet healthcare needs in the aftermath of disasters can significantly impede recovery efforts and exacerbate health disparities among the affected communities. This study aims to assess and predict such needs, develop an accurate predictive model, and identify the key influencing factors. Data from the 2017 Long-term Survey on the Change of Life of Disaster Victims in South Korea were analyzed using machine learning techniques, including logisti…
A population-based study on the risk of prescription opioid abuse in patients with chronic opioid use and cost-effectiveness of prescription drug monitoring program using a patient simulation model in…
Impact of Integrating Machine Learning in Comparative Effectiveness Research of Oral Anticoagulants in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
We aimed to compare the ability to balance baseline covariates and explore the impact of residual confounding between conventional and machine learning approaches to derive propensity scores (PS). The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database (January 2012-September 2019) was used. Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who initiated oral anticoagulants during July 2015-September 2018 were included. The outcome of interest was strok…
Expenditure on complementary and alternative medicine and productivity losses in patients with primary dysmenorrhea: A survey of women in Korea
In women with primary dysmenorrhea (PD), the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and productivity losses at both workplaces and schools have not been comprehensively assessed. In this study, researchers evaluated the disease burden in women with PD in patients' perspective in two categories: direct cost (the use of CAM and associated costs) and indirect cost (productivity losses). Women with PD aged 16-49 years were asked to fill …
Prevalence and incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and its risk factors in Korea: A nationwide population-based study
This national population-based study confirmed the high prevalence and incidence of ASCVD and its risk factors in the adult population of South Korea. We suggest that more intensive treatment and prevention are needed to prevent ASCVD
Prevalence and incidence of Parkinson’s disease and drug-induced parkinsonism in Korea
Our study suggests that the incidence of PD has gradually decreased whereas, the incidence of DIP increased from 2012 to 2015. Further studies are warranted to examine possible causes of increased DIP incidence in order to develop management strategy for parkinsonism
To whom do bureaucrats need to respond? Two faces of civil society in health policy
Estimating the lifetime economic burden of stroke according to the age of onset in South Korea: A cost of illness study
A higher lifetime burden and increasing incidence of stroke among younger Koreans highlight the need for more effective strategies for the prevention and management of stroke especially for people between 40 and 60 years of ages
