  • Determinants of contraceptive use dynamics

    Open Access•Axel I Mundigo, Jonathan F Phillips et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•1989

Because of the importance of contraceptive behaviour in most societies today a better understanding is needed of the social and behavioural factors affecting contraceptive decisions and choices of individuals and couples. This paper examines the need for longitudinal, theoretically-based studies of contraceptive use dynamics, including the timing, duration and interaction of reproductive events which may be more important than contraceptive techn…

  • Realpop

Charles Lawrence, Charles E Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1975

The structure of a computerized mathematical model for resource allocation in population programs (REALPOP) and its application to the Dominican Republic's national family planning program are described. The model integrates demographic and management science approaches in the analysis of resource allocation, program planning, goal evaluation, and growth strategies of a family planning program. It is designed primarily to aid administrative decis…

  • Motivators versus Messengers

J Mayone Stycos, Axel I Mundigo et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1974

A total of 3578 women in Santo Domingo were contacted either by trained motivators or a messenger to urge them to attend a family planning clinic. 3% of the women contacted came to the clinic. There was no significant difference in the number of women who responded to the motivator versus the messenger . Thus the more expensive person-to-person home visit is no more effective in bringing in new birth control acceptors than printed material delive…

  • A Nation of Strangers

    Axel I Mundigo, Vance Packard•ARTICLE•International Migration Review•1973

  • A mathematical model for resource allocation in population programs

    Open Access•Charles Lawrence, Charles E Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•1972•Cited by: 1•References: 12

The reduction of population growth rates through family planning programs is being attempted in many of the developing nations of the world. This activity lends itself aptly to mathematical modeling. Building from the well-known difference equation model of population growth, a model is constructed which integrates population dynamics, program activities, and resource consumption. The model may be used predictively to assess the outcome of variou…
