    Open Access•Moreblessing Chimweta, Innocent Wadzanayi Nyakudya et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 30

Flood-based farming systems can contribute significantly to smallholder farmers' food security and household income. The objectives of this study were to assess socio-economic importance of flood-recession cropping (FRC); characterise maize agronomic practices; determine factors that affect selection of crop establishment method; and identify major crop production challenges in the mid-Zambezi Valley. Data were collected through a questionnaire s…

  • Invasiveness of biofuel crops

Keotshephile Kashe, Donald L Kgathi et al.•ARTICLE•South African Geographical Journal•2021

In developed countries, biofuel development was largely driven by a desire to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increasing energy security, whereas in developing countries, in addition to energy security, the quest for rural development and employment creation incited an interest in biofuel production. Notwithstanding the benefits of biofuels, there are reservations about their potential invasiveness. These concerns stem from the fact tha…

  • Species richness, diversity, density and spatial distribution of soil seed banks in the riparian woodland along the Thamalakane River of the Okavango Delta, northern Botswana

Open Access•Mmusi Mmusi, Gaolathe Tsheboeng et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2021

Soil seed banks serve as reservoirs of seeds for subsequent regeneration of plants. Soil seed banks were investigated along the Thamalakane Riparian Woodlands (hereafter referred to as TRWs) of the Okavango Delta, northern Botswana, from January-July 2015 and January-July 2016. The study aimed at examining species richness and diversity, determining densities, assessing the spatial distribution of seeds in the soil and comparing the similarity in…

  • Ethnobotanical Survey of Woody Plants in Shorobe and Xobe Villages, Northwest Region of Botswana

Open Access•John Neelo, Keotshephile Kashe et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnobotany Research and…•2015

Ethnobotanical investigations were conducted at Xobe and Shorobe Villages in northwestern Botswana to identify woody plants used by the local people. A total of 90 households (35 in Xobe and 55 in Shorobe) were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire and personal interviews. A total of 38 woody species representing 16 families and 25 genera were recorded. Of these, 28 species representing 15 families and 22 genera were recorded from Sho…
