  • Not Your Climate Refugees”

    Open Access•R Stojanov, I Kelman et al.•ARTICLE•Island Studies Journal•2026•References: 13

Many reports of low-lying islands dealing with climate change impacts presume that forced migration is the expected and inevitable response, leading to the theorization of climate migration (sometimes termed ‘climigration’) for islanders. In reality, islanders tend to express a preference for staying in their homes and adapting, as demonstrated by Maldives. Through a longitudinal study involving on-site research in 2013, 2017, and 2023, we conduc…

  • Legal gun ownership as an important factor of state security

Open Access•Kateřina Bočková, Ludvík Juříček et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Infrastructure Policy…•2024

The question of whether legal gun ownership is a positive security factor in the Czech Republic is subject to expert debate and depends on several factors, including available crime data, public attitudes, and the legal framework. Some argue that legal gun ownership can dissuade criminals because they know victims may be armed. Many advocates argue that the right to own guns is a fundamental right that should be protected. Sometimes, it is diffic…

  • Transferability of the competences acquired in the elite athlete career to the project manager role analysis

Open Access•Kateřina Bočková, Martin Šimko et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Infrastructure Policy…•2024

What personal competences of successful project managers are determined by their former career as an elite athlete? To answer the question, comprehensive research is carried out, implemented as part of the EEIG-EU/P-Kr/06.12/23 project. The primary aim is to establish conclusively which particular personality traits, identified and analysed using the Big Five Inventory-2 and supplemented by structured interviews, directly contribute to the succes…

  • Frequency and use of defensive means in self-defence and extreme necessity in the Czechia and Slovakia

Open Access•Ludvík Juříček, Lívia Hasajová et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Infrastructure Policy…•2024

The use of firearms, their frequency, and legitimacy through self-defence and extreme necessity are socially relevant in Czechia and Slovakia. Legal firearm ownership for defence purposes impacts overall social security, influenced by factors like firearm legislation, cultural traditions, legal awareness, and violent crime rates. Understanding this issue requires considering subjective interpretations, even among security experts. This paper expl…

  • Synergy or disparity? Czech experts' insights on migration and development policies

    Open Access•R Stojanov, Aneta Seidlová et al.•ARTICLE•International Migration•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 9

This article discusses the promotion of policy coherence of migration and development policies that have figured high on the agenda of international organizations and the European Union but have been hardly explored in the context of Central and Eastern Europe. Based on in‐depth interviews with 40 Czech experts on migration and development, we identified three key contradictions: (i) The increasing prominence of a security perspective on both mig…

  • Are the Financial Fair Play Regulations Fair and Sustainable? Case of English Premier League

    Open Access•David Procházka, Šimon Vanc•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2021•References: 15

The paper investigates whether the Financial Fair Play Regulations have contributed to a sus- tainable economic framework of club football while retaining equal opportunities for sport success. Mutual relations among economic strength of football clubs, their financial aggres-siveness in investments into squads and league results after the implementation of the FFP rules are assessed. Using a dataset of the English Premier League clubs over 2011-…

  • Elasticity of Substitution in the Manufacturing Sector in the Czech Republic

    Open Access•Cristina Procházková Ilinitchi, Anastasie Pustovalová et al.•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 38

The paper estimates the elasticity of substitution between capital and labour under biased technical change in the manufacturing sector in the Czech Republic. We use a dataset covering the period 1995-2019 and a 2-digit industry level, from NACE10 to NACE33. We find industry-level elasticities to be 0.19 and 0.94; therefore, labour and capital seem to be gross complements rather than substitutes across all manufacturing sectors. In the core indus…

  • Sharp Feature Detection as a Useful Tool in Smart Manufacturing

Open Access•Jana Prochazkova, David Procházka et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2020

Industry 4.0 comprises a wide spectrum of developmental processes within the management of manufacturing and chain production. Presently, there is a huge effort to automate manufacturing and have automatic control of the production. This intention leads to the increased need for high-quality methods for digitization and object reconstruction, especially in the area of reverse engineering. Commonly used scanning software based on well-known algori…

    Open Access•David Procházka•ARTICLE•JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL STUDIES•2017•References: 3

The objective of this paper is to assess financial performance of Czech, Hungarian, Polish, and Slovak unlisted companies. The sample retrieved from the Amadeus database contains 171,095 firm-year observations for the period of 2010-2014. A linear regression model (weighted least squares with robust correction for standard errors) is run to regress Return on Assets (ROA) as the dependent variable against selected entity-specific factors, includin…

  • Local perceptions of climate change impacts and migration patterns in Malé, Maldives

    Open Access•R Stojanov, Barbora Duží et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2017•Cited by: 22•References: 54

For the last few decades, Maldives has been seen as being at the forefront of addressing climate change impacts. The low elevation of the islands makes them vulnerable to slow-onset hazards, such as coastal erosion, sea-level rise, salinity intrusion, and change in monsoon patterns and hence rainfall. Consequently, migration has long been discussed as an adaptation strategy for the population. This study covers outcomes from our field research co…

  • Economic Theories of Accounting

    Open Access•David Procházka, Jiří Pelák•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2016

The paper deals with fundamental functions of accounting and their characteristics, which are identified with reference to the information economics. Accounting research distinguishes three accounting functions: decision-usefulness; contracting; and signalling. Useful information produced by accounting contributes to mitigating the information asymmetry within economy. The theoretical classification of accounting functions is also relevant for th…
