The pastoralist diagnostic skills appear to be superior to those of agropastoralists. With the advent of modern veterinary medicine, the Maasai ethnoveterinary practice appears t…

  • Land Use and Spatial Distribution of Two Gum and Incense Producing Tree Species in the Blue-nile Valley of Wogidi District, Ethiopia

    Open Access•Chane G Turi, Nashon K R Musimba et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2003•References: 3

The study was conducted in the Blue-Nile valley of Wogidi district in Ethiopia, where woody vegetation degradation associated with intensive land use activities has become a national concern. It was undertaken with an overall objective of documenting the impacts of land use and topography on the spatial distribution of two gum and incense producing tree species, Boswellia papyrifera (Del.) Hochst and Commiphora africana (A. Rich.) Engl. Five land…

  • Influence of Settlements on Land use and Vegetation in the Rangelands of Northeastern Ethiopia

    Open Access•Diress T Alemu, Kassim O Farah et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1999•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Population pressure through settlements and encroachment of cultivation into pastoral prime grazing lands in and semi-and areas of Africa have resulted in the reduction of natural vegetation cover, in turn transforming land use systems This study was carried out to investigate changes in vegetation resources in relation to land use changes due to population pressure and the effect of time, in north-eastern Ethiopia. The methods employed involved …
