  • The biting performance of Homo sapiens and Homo heidelbergensis

  • Brief Communication

Recent studies suggest that the hypodigms representing the two earliest Australopithecus ( Au. anamensis and Au. afarensis ) form an ancestor‐descendant lineage. Understanding the details of this possible transition is important comparative evidence for assessing the likelihood of other examples of ancestor‐descendant lineages within the hominin clade. To this end we have analyzed crown and cusp base areas of high resolution replicas of the mandi…

  • Enamel microstructure of the hominid KB 5223 from Kromdraai, South Africa

    Open Access•Rodrigo S Lacruz•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2007•Cited by: 22•References: 35

The Plio‐Pleistocene site of Kromdraai, South Africa, is well known for the recovery of the holotype of Paranthropus robustus , one of nine individual hominids recovered from this site to date. Among the Kromdraai sample, the specimen KB 5223 comprises several isolated deciduous and permanent lower teeth assigned to Paranthropus , the only recognized genus at this site. However, a more recent analysis of this specimen suggested that it should be …

  • Variation in enamel development of South African fossil hominids

Open Access•Rodrigo S Lacruz, Fernando Ramírez Rozzi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•2006•Cited by: 29•References: 48

  • Revised age estimates of Australopithecus ‐bearing deposits at Sterkfontein, South Africa

    Open Access•L R Berger, Rodrigo S Lacruz et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2002•Cited by: 63•References: 17

The Sterkfontein fossil site in South Africa has produced the largest concentration of early hominin fossils from a single locality. Recent reports suggest that Australopithecus from this site is found within a broad paleontological age of between 2.5–3.5 Ma (Partridge [2000] The Cenozoic of Southern Africa, Oxford: Oxford Monographs, p. 100–125; Partridge et al. [2000a], The Cenozoic of Southern Africa, Oxford: Oxford Monographs, p. 129–130; Kum…
