  • Molecular variants of G6PD deficiency among certain tribal communities of Orissa, India

Open Access•Sudhansu Sekhar Nishank, Guru Prasad Chhotray et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2008

This study investigated the extent of molecular heterogeneity of the G6PD enzyme among certain aboriginal (tribal) populations of Orissa, an eastern Indian state, which is hyperendemic for Plasmodium falciparum malaria. A total of 3480 males from 14 tribal communities were screened, and 223 (6.4%) individuals were found to be G6PD deficient. Molecular analysis revealed that 59.2% of deficient individuals had the G6PD Orissa mutation and 37.2% had…

  • Periodicity of W. bancrofti microfilaraemia in Orissa, India

    Open Access•G P Chhotray, M R Ranjit et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2000

The periodicity of microfilariae of the filarial parasite.W.bancrofti was studied in 22 herman volunteers in 2 filarial endemie villages of undivided puri district of Orissa by using harmonic wave equation. The estimated peak hour of microfilariaemia was around 10 minutes past midnight. The microfilaria counts (Mfc) at the peak time were found to be 12 and 20 in the two villages studied respectively. The nature of the parasite W.bancrofti, was fo…

  • Effect of Anthelmintic/Anti Protozoal Treatment on the Nutritional Status of School Children in a Sub Urban Area of Orissa, India

Open Access•Guru Prasad Chhotray, Manoranjan Ranjit et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1999•References: 1

Intestinal parasitic infestation is one of the multiple etiologies of malnutrition amongst school children in India. To determine whether successful deworming treatment improves physical growth. 297 school children (aged 4-15 years) in a suburban area were followed for one year No other intervention programmer was instituted during this period. Height and weight were measured at the baseline and one year after the study. Growth was measured in te…
