  • Factors Influencing Microbiological Biodiversity of Human Foot Skin

Open Access•Aleksandra Steglińska, Anita Jachowicz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The aim of the study was to analyze the microbiological biodiversity of human foot skin with respect to factors such as age, gender, frequency of foot washing and physical activity, and to select indicator species to be considered when designing textile materials with antimicrobial properties used for sock and insole production. The experiment was carried out on a group of 40 people. The number of microorganisms was determined using culture-depen…

  • Dust at Various Workplaces—Microbiological and Toxicological Threats

Open Access•Beata Gutarowska, Justyna Szulc et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relation between the chemical (analysis of elements and pH) and microbiological composition (culture and metagenomics analysis) of the dust at various workplaces (cement plant, composting plant, poultry farm, and cultivated area) and the cytotoxicity effect on the human adenocarcinoma lung epithelial adherent cell line A-549 (MTT assay test). Analysis of the Particulate Matter (PM) fraction showed …

  • Microbiological Contamination at Workplaces in a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Station Processing Plant Biomass

Open Access•Justyna Szulc, Anna Otlewska et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

The aim of the study was to evaluate the microbial contamination at a plant biomass processing thermal power station (CHP). We found 2.42 × 103 CFU/m3 of bacteria and 1.37 × 104 CFU/m3 of fungi in the air; 2.30 × 107 CFU/g of bacteria and 4.46 × 105 CFU/g of fungi in the biomass; and 1.61 × 102 CFU/cm2 bacteria and 2.39 × 101 CFU/cm2 fungi in filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs). Using culture methods, we found 8 genera of mesophilic bacteria a…

  • Microbial diversity of pre-Columbian archaeological textiles and the effect of silver nanoparticles misting disinfection

Open Access•Katarzyna Pietrzak, Michał Puchalski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 27

  • Disinfection of archival documents using thyme essential oil, silver nanoparticles misting and low temperature plasma

Open Access•Katarzyna Pietrzak, Anna Otlewska et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2017•References: 31

  • Production of the Allergenic Protein Alt a 1 by Alternaria Isolates from Working Environments

Open Access•Justyna Skóra, Anna Otlewska et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

The aim of the study was to evaluate the ability of Alternaria isolates from workplaces to produce Alt a 1 allergenic protein, and to analyze whether technical materials (cellulose, compost, leather) present within the working environment stimulate or inhibit Alt a 1 production (ELISA test). Studies included identification of the isolated molds by nucleotide sequences analyzing of the ITS1/ITS2 regions, actin, calmodulin and Alt a 1 genes. It has…
