A survival analysis of dropout among French swimmers
This study examines the dropout rates among French swimmers based on performance levels, sex, and relative age. Using data from 160,861 swimmers under the age of 21, we analyzed the distribution of birth quarters and dropout rates across performance levels. Chi-squared tests were conducted to confirm the significant effect of birth quarter on performance. Kaplan–Meier Survival (KMS) curves were used to evaluate and interpret the impact of sex and…
Impact of athletic profiles and the relative age effect on the future achievement levels of young basketball players
Talent identification in youth sports is a multifactorial process, with athletic profiling and the Relative Age Effect (RAE) playing critical roles. However, few studies have investigated their combined influence on long-term success in youth basketball. This study explores how athletic profiles and RAE influence future success in young male basketball players. A total of 131 players (age: 14.5 ± 0.7 years; height: 180.6 ± 9.7 cm) were assessed o…

Covid-19 Mortality
Context The human development territories have been severely constrained under the Covid-19 pandemic. A common dynamics has been observed, but its propagation has not been homogeneous over each continent. We aimed at characterizing the non-viral parameters that were most associated with death rate. Methods We tested major indices from five domains (demography, public health, economy, politics, environment) and their potential associations with Co…
The Impact of Recovery Practices Adopted by Professional Tennis Players on Fatigue Markers According to Training Type Clusters
Introduction: Modern tennis players face congested schedules that force the adoption of various recovery strategies. Thus, recovery must be fine-tuned with an accurate quantification of its impacts, especially with regards to training-induced fatigue. The present study aimed to examine the training type clusters and recovery practices adopted by elite tennis players under ecological training conditions. The respective impacts of training type clu…
Body and Boat
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine and weigh the anthropometric indicators that were associated with pacing performances for each Olympic rowing category. Methods: Between 2010 and 2015, 1,148 rowers (650 men and 498 women) participated in the finals of World Championships in each heavyweight Olympic event. They were categorized into four morphological clusters according to their height and body mass index (BMI): tall and thin …
