  • Purkait’s Triangle Revisited

Open Access•Mennattallah Hassan Attia, Mohamed Attia et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Sciences Research•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Identification of unknown remains recovered from marine and terrestrial locations is a significant humanitarian problem. This investigation proposes a simple method applicable to fragmentary femora for a more refined level of ancestry and/or sex estimation. To that end, we re-examined Purkait's triangle which involves three inter-landmark distances between the traction epiphyses and the articular rim of femoral head. A large sample ( n = 584) fro…

  • Observations of external ear—An Indian study

    Open Access•Priyanka Singh, Ruma Purkait•ARTICLE•HOMO•2009

  • A Cephalometric Study among Sub Caste Groups Dangi and Ahirwar of Khurai Block of Madhya Pradesh

    Open Access•Priyanka Singh, Ruma Purkait•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

This cross-sectional study reports the frequency data of twelve caphalometric measurements and eight indices pertaining to various part of head and face among Dangis and Ahirwars of Khurai Block of M.P. Sample size comprises of 377 individuals including 200 Dangis and 177 Ahirwars. Sexual difference in the same caste group has been studied. Among both castes groups individual becomes more and more sexually dimorphic with increasing age

  • Assessment of Sex from Cross Sectional Area of Femoral Head

    Open Access•Ruma Purkait•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2003

The present study evaluates the possibilty of sex assessment from the cross sectional area of various segments of the femur head. An instrument was devised which could measure the cross sectional area without cutting sections of the femur head. The result obtained with the instrument devised was physically checked with a pilot study by making sections at designated spots in twenty femur head specimens (ten of each sex). Both the methods were foun…

  • Relation of Age and Body Weight with Blood Pressure

Open Access•Swati Patni, Ankur Yadav et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2003

A blood pressure survey has been conducted on 286 Bhoksas individuals (151males and 135 females) aged between 6 to 68 selected by purposive sampling from three village of Dehradun district. In both sexes, mean blood pressure level shows a gradual rise with advance in age and weight. In all, the blood pressure of Bhoksas (both male and female) is within normal range indicating their good health

  • Sex Determination From Femur

    Open Access•Ruma Purkait•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1996•References: 3

There is enormous sexual difference in male and female head of femur, which is not a sphere but not even a uniform spheroid. The theme and stress during this work was to identify the anatomical landmarks, followed by anthropometry. This resulted in more uniform readings taking away the eye judgement and observer’s error. The reported standardised techniques of measurements - of cuarvatures in horizontal and vertical axis gave the results which ar…

  • Sex Assessment from Ulna

    Open Access•Ruma Purkait•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1996•Cited by: 1

The present study varies from conventional methods and proposes alternate methods for the assessment of sex using the ulna. The present study is based on 100 male and 60 female adult ulnae from Madhya Pradesh. India. The results of different methods are reported independently and examined together. The data is then analysed using a discriminant function procedure for estimating sex. The resulting variables correctly assign sex for 99% of males an…
