  • Part 4: Genetic correlates of enhanced measles susceptibility in Amazon Indians

    Francis L Black, Walter J Hierholzer et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Anthropology•1982•Cited by: 3•References: 6

  • Part four: Birth and survival patterns in numerically unstable proto agricultural societies in the Brazilian Amazon

    Francis L Black, Francisco Dep Pinheiro et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Anthropology•1978•Cited by: 9•References: 9

Demographic characteristics of eight diverse unacculturated tribes of Pará state of Brazil are examined. Serial censuses reveal highly unstable patterns and standard demographic procedures based on the assumption of a steady state are not applicable to current data. Postulating that prior to regular contacts with the national culture the population changes in the several tribes were asynchronous, we have used the average of the several tribes as …

  • Blood groups and H‐Le a salivary secretion of Brazilian Cayapo Indians

    Open Access•Francisco M Salzano, Henry Gershowitz et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1972•Cited by: 4•References: 9

Five hundred and twenty‐six individuals from four populations were studied in relation to the ABO, MNSs, P, Rh, Lutheran, Kell, Lewis, Duffy, Kidd, Diego and I systems, as well as for the Wright antigen of blood groups. The H‐Le a salivary secretion of 406 of them was also investigated. Considering the gene markers which show variation in South American Indians, the Cayapo frequencies are in the middle of the distribution range for genes L Ms , R…
