Dermatoglyphical Studies in Primary Amenorrhea
The frequency of digital patterns and their indices, mean values and t’values of finger ridge count and interdigital ridge counts, frequency of patterns in hypothenar, thenar and interdigital areas, frequency of various types of axial triradii of 70 primary amenorrhea cases and 30 controls are presented. It is observed that there is a slight increase of loop ulnar and arches in the study group compared to the control group. In the ridge count als…
A Study on the Blood Groups and Colour-Blindness Among Yadavas - A Caste Population of Andhra Pradesh, South India
The variabilities ot the ABO and RH(D) blood groups, and the incidence of colour-blindness among the Yadavas, a caste population of East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, have been investigated. The genetic traits studied here have exhibited distribution patterns similar to that reported earlier in other caste peculations of Andhra Pradesh
Path analysis of family resemblance for cranio-facial traits in Andhra Pradesh nuclear families and twins
Path analysis of 12 cranio-facial measurements from a sample of nuclear families and twins from Andhra Pradesh, India is used to test hypotheses about the familial transmission of these traits. For bigonial breadth and ear dimensions, the transmission from parent to child is consistent with simple autosomal polygenic inheritance, but length, breadth and circumference of the head, facial breadth and nose dimensions show evidence of transmission in…
Family resemblance for cranio‐facial measurements in Velanti Brahmins from Andhra Pradesh, India
Maximum likelihood estimates of familial correlations are presented for 12 cranio‐facial measurements taken on 399 nuclear families from Southern India. Marital resemblance is significantly different from zero for head circumference, head breadth, minimum frontal breadth, bizygomatic breadth, total facial height, and nasal height, but not for bigonial breadth, nose breadth, nose depth, or ear dimensions. All other familial correlations are signif…
Inheritance of digital arches in humans
From the fingertip pattern analysis of 125 families with 376 children from Velanadu Brahmin and 100 families with 286 children from Telaganya Brahmin caste sects of Andhra Pradesh, India, the occurrence of an arch on at least one of the ten finger tips is shown to be aggregated in families. The mode of aggregation is in conformity with a major dominant gene with 0.28 chance of penetrance. This is to some extent contradictory to the result publish…
ABO blood groups and fertility—with special reference to intrauterine selection due to materno‐fetal incompatibility
The purpose of the present investigation was to study whether there is differential fertility between different mating types of ABO blood group system. Selective force which is operating through maternal‐fetal incompatibility has been observed in the differential fertility between compatible and incompatible mating groups in the present sample of 183 families of Visakhapatnam town of Andhra Pradesh, India. The differences in the mean numbers of p…
