  • The Earth Is Hungry

    Open Access•Gordon Ulmer•ARTICLE•The Journal of Latin American and…•2020•References: 21

  • Climate change, uncertainty and allostatic load

    Open Access•Douglas E Crews, N C Kawa et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2019

CONTEXT: Humans constantly respond to environmental stressors challenging their somatic stability. Allostasis, an evolved neuroendocrine/physiological stressor response system, is our main pathway for doing so. Effective allostasis returns somatic systems to their current optima; over a lifetime of stressor responses, related systems fail, effectiveness declines, and physiological dysregulation (i.e. allostatic load) increases. Global Climate Cha…

  • A pretext for plunder? Environmental change and state-led redevelopment in the Peruvian Amazon

    Open Access•N C Kawa, Gordon Ulmer et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropology Today•2018•References: 2

A federal decree stated that 'constant inundation' from the Itaya River had put residents and their homes in jeopardy. Following this declaration, the federal government proposed to resettle residents in a planned community, 13 km outside the city. Drawing from interviews with 77 h…

  • Ethnographic Inquiry in the "Digitized" Fields of Madre de Dios, Peru and Oaxaca, Mexico

Gordon Ulmer, Gordon L Ulmer et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Quarterly•2016•Cited by: 1

Instant messaging and video teleconferencing over social media are common 21st century ethnographic practices that crisscross physical and digital spaces. While this multimodal approach to fieldwork has increasingly become the norm in anthropology and other related disciplines, there is little discussion of the dynamism between various computer/smartphone-mediated forms of inquiry and how digital and face-to-face “classical” ethnographic methods …
