  • Spatial Distributions of Isotope Ratios in Tap Water, Hair, and Teeth from Latin America for Region-of- Origin Predictions of Unidentified Border Crossers

Saskia Ammer, Eric J Bartelink et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Anthropology•2025

In this article, we present and summarize reference stable isotope data useful in the identification efforts of deceased undocumented border crossers (UBCs) found in southern Arizona and South Texas. In addition, we discuss the use of reference baseline data to refine predictions of region-of-origin of unidentified UBC remains. Overall, Mexican reference hair samples reflect significant consumption of C4 resources, indicating a diet dominated by …

  • Evolving Role of Forensic Anthropologists in Medical Examiner Offices

Julie Fleischman, Julie M Fleischman et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Anthropology•2023•Cited by: 2

The discipline of forensic anthropology has evolved dramatically during its relatively short history, as has the role of forensic anthropologists, both of which are well documented in various publications (e.g., Christensen et al. 2019; Dirkmaat & Cabo 2012; Işcan 1988; Ubelaker 2018). The presence and role of forensic anthropologists specifically working in medical examiner or coroner (ME/C) offices in the United States have also been emphasized…

  • Response to multivariate ordinal probit analysis in the skeletal assessment of sex (Konigsberg and Frankenberg)

Open Access•Alexandra Klales, Stephen Ousley et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 9

  • Low serum vitamin A mothers breastfeed daughters more often than sons in drought-ridden northern Kenya

    Open Access•M Fujita, E A Roth et al.•ARTICLE•Evolution and Human Behavior•2012

  • A revised method of sexing the human innominate using Phenice's nonmetric traits and statistical methods

    Open Access•Alexandra Klales, Alexandra R Klales et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2012•Cited by: 41•References: 29

The traits of the pubis described by Phenice (Am J Phys Anthropol 30 (1969) 297–302) have been used extensively by physical anthropologist for sex estimation. This study investigates all three of Phenice's characteristics in an approach similar to Walker's (Am J Phys Anthropol 136 (2008) 39–50) study using observations from the cranium and mandible. The ventral arc, the subpubic contour, and the medial aspect of the ischio‐pubic ramus were scored…

  • In poor families, mothers' milk is richer for daughters than sons

    Open Access•M Fujita, E A Roth et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2012•Cited by: 20•References: 51

The Trivers–Willard hypothesis predicts the unequal parental investment between daughters and sons, depending on maternal condition and offspring reproductive potential. Specifically, in polygynous populations where males have higher reproductive variance than females, it predicts that mothers in good condition will invest more in sons, whereas mothers in poor condition will invest more in daughters. Previous studies testing this hypothesis focus…
