  • Ancient Proboscidean-Ivory Artifacts from Northwestern Venezuela

    Open Access•Jorge D Carrillo-Briceño, Andrés E Reyes-Céspedes et al.•ARTICLE•PaleoAmerica•2025

For thousands of years, ivory has been used as a raw material to produce utensils and other tools in many regions of the world. Ivory artifacts have been recovered from Late Pleistocene archaeological sites throughout North America and South America. We report two proboscidean ivory artifacts found in northwestern Venezuela. These artifacts were likely used as tools, and their morphology is unique with no similarities to other artifacts reported …

  • A morphological, morphometric and geochemical characterization of the El Jobo projectile points - diversity and significance in early human populations across the Americas

Open Access•Diego Vargas, Kévin Le Verger et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2025•References: 45

The El Jobo projectile points represent a distinctive design innovation of Late Pleistocene Neotropical human groups. This technology, characterized by its fusiform/lanceolate shape, has been recorded mainly in northwestern Venezuela in a variety of geographical areas and in association with megafauna killing/butchering sites. To characterize it, address its significance, and analyse possible continental relationships, four consecutive approaches…

  • Reconstruction of environmental changes during the late glacial and Holocene reflected in a soil-sedimentary sequence from the lower Selenga River valley, Lake Baikal region, Siberia, assessed by lipi…

    Open Access•Guido L B Wiesenberg, Darima Andreeva et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

  • Reconstruction of the late Quaternary paleoenvironments of the Nussloch loess paleosol sequence—Comment to the paper published by Zech et al., Quaternary Research 78 (2012), 226–235

    Open Access•Guido L B Wiesenberg, Martina Gocke•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2013

Reconstruction of the late Quaternary paleoenvironments of the Nussloch loess paleosol sequence—Comment to the paper published by Zech et al., Quaternary Research 78 (2012), 226–235 - Volume 79 Issue 2

  • From pedologic indications to archaeological reconstruction

Open Access•M Egli, Luciano Gristina et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 4

  • Short-chain n-alkanes (C16–20) in ancient soil are useful molecular markers for prehistoric biomass burning

    Open Access•Eileen Eckmeier, Guido L B Wiesenberg•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2009•Cited by: 10•References: 5

  • Complexity of Soil Organic Matter

Open Access•Janet Rethemeyer, Christiane Kramer et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 24

Radiocarbon measurements of different lipid fractions and individual compounds, isolated from soil samples collected on 2 different agricultural long-term study sites, located in the rural area of Rotthalmünster (Germany) and in the city of Halle/Saale (Germany), were analyzed to obtain information about sources and the stability of soil organic matter (SOM). Different lipid compound classes were isolated by automated solvent extraction and subse…
