Open Access•Francisco Javier Araos Leiva, Emilia Catalán et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Latin American and…•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 26

The Chilean Blue Patagonia is an essential space for marine life and a global center of the aquaculture industry. Over the last few years, several socio-environmental crises and conflicts have marked its development, highlighting the impacts of salmon farming on marine habitats and the livelihoods of local communities. To face this critical scenario, the indigenous peoples have created the Indigenous Marine Areas (ECMPO), a protection figure whic…

  • Espacios Costeros Marinos para Pueblos Originarios: Usos Consuetudinarios Y Conservación Marina

Open Access•Francisco Araos, Francisco Javier Araos Leiva et al.•ARTICLE•Anuário Antropológico•2020•Cited by: 7•References: 24

  • Rebounding From Extractivism: The history and re-assertion of traditional weir-fishing practices in the Interior Sea of Chiloé

Open Access•Ricardo Alvarez, Doina Munita et al.•ARTICLE•Shima•2019

This study analyses the use of traditional fishing weirs in the Interior Sea of Chilo, in southern Chile. Although fishing weirs were in operation the time of the arrival of the first Europeans in the area in the mid-16th Century, when the indigenous Chono and Williche populations led distinctly aquapelagic lifestyles, we contend that they proliferated in subsequent centuries during the process of mestizaje (mixing) between indigenous populations…

  • Selection Bias in Virtual Intergroup Contact: Do Ambiguity and Self-Interest Moderate Ingroup Preference

    Open Access•J Louw-Potgieter, Joha Louw‐Potgieter et al.•ARTICLE•South African Journal of Psychology•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 14

Cross-race contact is thought to decrease prejudice if it occurs under the correct conditions. However, people who already have negative attitudes towards other races may structure their social environments so as to avoid contact. We predict that self-interest and ambiguity of the situation will influence this strategy of avoidance. The study presented made use of a computer-based tool which manipulated self-interest and task ambiguity in three t…

  • Predicting Eyewitness Identification Accuracy with Mock Witness Measures of Lineup Fairness: Quality of Encoding Interacts with Lineup Format

Open Access•Colin Tredoux, Janat Fraser Parker et al.•ARTICLE•South African Journal of Psychology•2007•References: 25

After viewing a staged crime under varying levels of encoding optimality, eyewitnesses made identifications from lineups that were either presented to them as a simultaneous line of people, or individually, in sequence. Lineups did not contain the perpetrator of the staged crime, and were purposefully constructed to have varying levels of bias. There was an interaction between encoding optimality and type of lineup, with sequential-presentation l…

  • Preserving Spatial and Temporal Dimensions in Observational Data of Segregation

Open Access•Colin Tredoux, John Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•South African Journal of Psychology•2005•Cited by: 18•References: 19

Recent approaches to the study of intergroup contact have emphasised the need for naturalistic studies and the importance of paying attention to the spatiality of contact. In this article it is argued that it is important to preserve both spatiality and temporality when studying inter-group contact in naturalistic settings. This is not easy to do with existing observational methods, and a novel approach is proposed. Photographs are taken of a pub…
