Hairstyles of the Early Medieval Sogdiana (by the materials of carved wood from Kafirkala)
One of the unique archaeological finds is represented by a charred tree with carved images, found at the set-tlement of Kafirkala in the Samarkand Oblast. It consists of a panel itself and several parts. The panel of a rectan-gular shape (measuring 124×141 cm) is composed of two boards fastened together with iron brackets. On the front of the panel, a composition of 46 human figures arranged in four tiers is carved, whilst more than 20 other char…
The Uzbek-American Expedition in Bukhara. Preliminary Report on the Third Season (2017)

At Bashtepa, results indicate a shifting site function, from a border fortress, over a phase during which a monumental though still poorly understood pla…
Hoard of Sogdian cult utensils of the 7th–8th century from Pay-Aryk
This paper presents a publication of a hoard of metal objects (two lamps and a cauldron) found in the surroundings of the town of Pay-Aryk of the Samarkand region in Uzbekistan. These objects apparently belonged to a small rural temple and were hidden during the Arabian conquest. The shapes of the bimetal lamp and bronze cauldron are specific for the Sogdian toreutics while the decorative design of the lamp reveals an Indian influence
