  • The Easternmost Outpost of the Hadramawt Kingdom

Open Access•Silvia Lischi, Alessia Prioletta et al.•ARTICLE•Arabian archaeology and epigraphy•2026•References: 6

This paper presents the results of the first archaeological investigation at Andhūr (DMa0610), an inland site in the Wādī Andhūr oasis, Dhofar, southern Oman. Excavations revealed a multi‐phase occupation dated to the second part of the first century BCE , centred on a two‐storey building constructed with the ‘sandwich’ masonry technique known from Sumhuram. Architectural and environmental evidence suggest that Andhūr served as a small Hadrami ou…

  • Grotta della Lea, a new Early Epigravettian site in southern Italy (Uluzzo Bay)

Open Access•Giulia Marciani, Antonino Vazzana et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2025•References: 5

  • Taphonomic data from the transitional Aurignacian of El Castillo cave (Spain) reveals the role of carnivores at the Aurignacian Delta level

    Open Access•Alicia Sanz-Royo, Gabriele Terlato et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Science Advances•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 46

Palaeolithic sites are complex palimpsests due to the recurrent presence of human groups and carnivores through time, as documented in several European caves and rock shelters. Within these contexts, it can be challenging to identify the main contributors to bone accumulations and interpret human subsistence strategies and the role of carnivores. Consequently, taphonomic analyses are crucial for distinguishing the origins of these occupation epis…

  • Subsistence strategies during the Gravettian in the rock shelter of La Viña (Asturias, N Spain)

    Open Access•Elene Arenas-Sorriqueta, A B Marín‐arroyo et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Science Advances•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 22

The rock shelter of La Viña, located on the northern Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula, contains a rich archaeological sequence dated from the Mousterian to the Magdalenian. This site preserves an extended Gravettian occupation where a diversified assemblage of fauna, lithic and bone tools has been attested. In this paper, we undertake the archaeozoological and taphonomic study of the macromammals found in the Gravettian levels X and IX of …

  • Exploring late Paleolithic and Mesolithic diet in the Eastern Alpine region of Italy through multiple proxies

Open Access•G Oxilia, Eugenio Bortolini et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 102

Objectives The analysis of prehistoric human dietary habits is key for understanding the effects of paleoenvironmental changes on the evolution of cultural and social human behaviors. In this study, we compare results from zooarchaeological, stable isotope and dental calculus analyses as well as lower second molar macrowear patterns to gain a broader understanding of the diet of three individuals who lived between the end of the Late Pleistocene …

  • Late neandertals and the exploitation of small mammals in northern Italy

Matteo Romandini, Ursula Thun Hohenstein et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternaire•2018•Cited by: 15•References: 13

This work reviews the anthropogenic exploitation of small mammals during a crucial time span for the reconstruction of human behavior at the dawn of the Middle - Upper Palaeolithic boundary in the Northern Mediterranean region. Data are sourced from faunal assemblages recovered in the final Mousterian levels of Grotta di Fumane (A5-A6 complex) and the Late Mousterian levels of Riparo Tagliente (levels 35 and 36) and Grotta di San Bernardino (unit…
