The King’s Quarry site (36LH2), located in the Reading Prong region of eastern Pennsylvania, is one of six remaining jasper quarries mapped by the late James Hatch and reported in 1994. Several archaeological investigations were conducted there in preparation for a housing development. These investigations included controlled surface collections, hand excavated test units, and extensive mechanical investigations of mining pits. Pre-Contact era qu…

  • Experimental butchery study investigating the influence of timing of access and butcher expertise on cut mark variables

    Open Access•B Pobiner, Charles P Higson et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018•Cited by: 5•References: 48

Cut marks on fossils from Plio‐Pleistocene faunal assemblages can elucidate the timing and nature of hominin procurement of animal tissues. Although butchery experiments have great potential to enhance our ability to understand hominin butchery behaviours, studies that model variation in the timing of access to carcasses and butcher expertise have either yielded conflicting results or have not yet been undertaken. We conducted butchery experiment…

  • Hunting with Talc

Geoffrey Cunnar, William Schindler et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnoarchaeology•2009•Cited by: 3•References: 18

Collaborative excavations by the Shandong University and Field Museum at the Longshan Period site of Liangchengzhen in eastern Shandong Province, China have uncovered over 200 projectile points constructed from several prevalent material types of varying hardness. The majority of the points were finished by grinding. The smaller percentage were finished by pressure flaking. Raw materials utilized in projectile point manufacture included chlorite …
