  • Seasonal aggregation and ritual slaughter: Isotopic and dental microwear evidence for cattle herder mobility in the Arabian Neolithic

    Open Access•Elizabeth Henton, Joy Mcorriston et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Anthropological…•2014•Cited by: 17•References: 63

  • Cattle Cults of the Arabian Neolithic and Early Territorial Societies

    Open Access•Joy Mccorriston, Michael J Harrower et al.•ARTICLE•American Anthropologist•2012•Cited by: 37•References: 66

At the cusp of food production, Near Eastern societies adopted new territorial practices, including archaeologically visible sedentism and nonsedentary social defenses more challenging to identify archaeologically. New archaeological and paleoenvironmental evidence for Arabia's earliest-known sacrifices points to territorial maintenance in arid highland southern Yemen. Here sedentism was not an option prior to agriculture. Seasonally mobile pasto…

  • Paleoclimatic implications of the spatial patterns of modern and LGM European land-snail shell δ 18 O

    Open Access•Natalie Kehrwald, Natalie M Kehrwald et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2010

The oxygen isotopic composition of land-snail shells may provide insight into the source region and trajectory of precipitation. Last glacial maximum (LGM) gastropod shells were sampled from loess from Belgium to Serbia and modern land-snail shells both record δ 18 O values between 0‰ and − 5‰. There are significant differences in mean fossil shell δ 18 O between sites but not among genera at a single location. Therefore, we group δ 18 O values f…

  • Luminescence and amino acid racemization chronology of the loess–paleosol sequence at Süttő, Hungary

Open Access•Ágnes Novothny, Manfred Frechen et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2009

  • Late Pleistocene loess‐palaeosol sequences in the Vojvodina region, north Serbia

    Open Access•Slobodan B Marković, Mark P Bokhorst et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Quaternary Science•2008

Late Pleistocene loess‐palaeosol sequences are widespread in the Vojvodina region, with thicknesses reaching a maximum of about 20 m. Our investigations include more than 40 of these loess sections. Geochronology of the last glacial loess‐palaeosol sequences, based on luminescence dating and amino acid racemisation, provides correlations between Upper Pleistocene loess‐palaeosol sediments in Vojvodina and comparable deposits at other European loc…

  • Mapping the roots of agriculture in southern Arabia: The application of satellite remote sensing, global positioning system and geographic information system technologies

    Open Access•Michael J Harrower, M Harrower et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2002•Cited by: 6•References: 5

Satellite remote sensing, global positioning system (GPS) and geographical information system (GIS) technologies form a powerful methodological and analytical triad for archaeological research, particularly in remote regions where few large‐scale maps are available. This paper outlines the application of these technologies as a component of the Roots of Agriculture in Southern Arabia (RASA) research project and provides a review for archaeologist…

  • Holocene Paleoecology and Prehistory in Highland Southern Arabia

Joy Mccorriston, Eric A Oches et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2002•Cited by: 22•References: 5

  • Two Early Holocene check dams from Southern Arabia

  • Aminostratigraphic Evaluation of Conflicting Age Estimates for the "Young Loess" of Hungary

    Open Access•Eric A Oches, William D McCoy•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1995

As part of a regional investigation of the aminostratigraphy of central European loess deposits, we have sampled and analyzed the amino acid composition of fossil gastropod shells from stratotype loess profiles at Mende, Basaharc, and Paks, plus the profile at Süttö, in an effort to correlate independently loess-paleosol formations of the "Young Loess" of Hungary with loess units elsewhere in the region. The measured extent of isoleucine epimeriz…
