    This paper makes use of the methodological approach known as “chaîne opératoire” to examine the ways in which Makushi villagers living in southern Guyana cultivate and process manioc tubers, taking example on the way Ludovic Coupaye studied yam cultivation process in Papua New Guinea (Coupaye 2013).     I start with a discussion of the limits of the United Nations' Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation and cobenefits (REDD+) program and the need to embed forest carbon within integrated ecosystem services on a landscape scale.
