Daily Precipitation Patterns over Wales: Towards a Detailed Precipitation Climatology
Standardized daily precipitation patterns over Wales for more than 1000 days on which significant falls occurred are grouped using cluster analysis to yield nine major pattern groups. Comparison of the pattern groups with the Lamb circulation, near-surface airflows and significant synoptic situations yields a detailed synoptic precipitation climatology which clearly relates daily precipitation pattern to a limited number of specific synoptic situ…
Precipitation: Process and Analysis
Part 1 Water in the atmosphere: the global picture atmospheric water as a part of the hydrological cycle evaporation, transpiration and evapotranspiration determination of evaporation and transpiration rates. Part 2 The formation of clouds: setting the stage uplift in the atmosphere cloud types and morphology. Part 3 Precipitation formation: not all clouds precipitate precipitation form precipitation characteristics precipitation type. Part 4 Loc…

Video kills the lecturing star: New technologies and the teaching of meteorology
The educational potential of time‐lapse video sequences and weather data obtained using a conventional microcomputer are considered in the light of recent advances in both fields. Whilst microcomputer technology is now well‐advanced, online weather data acquisition, with the micro central to the system as a means of display and analysis as well, is in its infancy. The full potential of video technology has still to be grasped by geographers. At p…
