Sobreingesta de boro durante la época precolombina en las poblaciones de Arica
In some valleys in northern Chile, the natural water reservoirs used for human consumption contain high levels of boron (> 25 mg/L). In local Pre-Colombian populations, this resulted in overexposure which is harmful to human health, causing gastrointestinal and other issues. Boron levels vary regionally, with the Lluta and Camarones Valleys presenting higher mean values (14 and 25 mg/L, respectively) than the Azapa Valley (1 mg/L). To estimate co…

There are more than 1500 partnerships and initiatives currently addressing Sustainable Development Goal #14 (Life Below Water), with blue carbon activities – carbon-oriented conservation and restoration projects in coastal ecosystems – representing a small proportion. A key challenge for blue carbon initiatives is the integration of social and cultural dimensions within governance mechanisms – a common problem in global environmental governance. …
Un diente de tiburón fósil usado como objeto adorno-colgante en la localidad Arqueológica Punta Medanosa (costa norte de Santa Cruz)
Durante los trabajos de muestreo de materiales arqueológicos en superficie en un conchero de la localidad Punta Medanosa se recuperó un diente fósil de tiburón, claramente asociado contextualmente a dichos restos. La ubicación del conchero sobre una matriz de dunas en erosión, asentado sobre cordones litorales del Holoceno tardío, permitieron afirmar que el hallazgo correspondía a un ecofacto, es decir, un producto natural que fue transportado de…
