Geochemistry of sediments from Quaternary sand ramps in the southeastern Mojave Desert, California
Composition and Sources of Sand in the Wahiba Sand Sea, Sultanate of Oman
The Wahiba Sand Sea in the Sultanate of Oman is composed of two physiographic units that can be roughly divided into northern and southern regions. The Northern Wahiba is predominantly a large megaridge system, whereas the Southern Wahiba mostly comprises linear dunes, sand sheets, and nabkha fields. Although the dunes of the two regions are of different ages, it has previously been hypothesized that their sands were derived primarily from the sa…
Desert Aeolian Processes
The resurgence of aeolian geomorphology. Potential transport of windblown sand: influence of surface roughness and assessment with radar data. Origin of the Gran Desierto Sand Sea, Sonora, Mexico: evidence from dune morphology and sedimentology. Reversed desertification on sand dunes along the Sinai/Negev border. Alterations of ventifact surfaces at the glacier/desert interface. Geomorphic and geochemical evidence for the source of sand in the Al…
Magnitude and Frequency of Blowing Dust on the Southern High Plains of the United States, 1947–1989
The concept of magnitude and frequency in geomorphology maintains that the amount of work done on a landscape (the amount of sediment moved) by geomorphic events is determined by the product of the magnitude of the event and the frequency with which that sized event occurs. For many geomorphic systems, it has been found that events of moderate size produce the most sediment transport. This seems not to be the case for aeolian processes on the Sou…
