  • The use of historical bathymetric charts in a GIS to assess morphological change in estuaries

Open Access•Daphne Van Der Wal, Ken Pye et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2003•Cited by: 2•References: 14

Navigational charts are a valuable data source for the study of morphological change in estuaries, as they provide bathymetric information of many estuaries, and span a vast period of time. Charts are suitable for studying patterns of morphological change, such as shoal and channel migration. In addition, sequential bathymetric charts or bed surveys can be used to calculate sedimentation and erosion rates. However, a number of problems arise when…

  • Gradistat

Open Access•Simon J Blott, Ken Pye et al.•ARTICLE•Earth Surface Processes and…•2001

Grain size analysis is an essential tool for classifying sedimentary environments. The calculation of statistics for many samples can, however, be a laborious process. A computer program called GRADISTAT has been written for the rapid analysis of grain size statistics from any of the standard measuring techniques, such as sieving and laser granulometry. Mean, mode, sorting, skewness and other statistics are calculated arithmetically and geometric…

  • A revised chronology for aeolian activity in subarctic Fennoscandia during the Holocene

    Open Access•Jukka Käyhkö, Jukka A Käyhkö et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1999•Cited by: 2•References: 13

Detailed sedimentological studies and parallel sampling for 14 C and infra-red stimulated luminescence age assays were undertaken at six sites lying beyond and below the tree-line with the objective of establishing the historical development of aeolian landforms in Lapland. The main issues were: (a) the timing of dune activity and processes of stabilization; (b) the specific processes responsible for the past and contemporary activity. New data i…
