Conceptualizing self-reported adverse childhood experiences
In this paper, we apply a measurement science perspective to explore both the epidemiologic and psychometric frameworks for the conceptualization, operationalization and assessment of self-reported adverse childhood experiences (srACEs). The epidemiologic paradigm suggests that srACEs are ‘exposures’, while the psychometric paradigm views responses on srACEs instrumentation as ‘indicators’. It is the central premise of this paper that srACEs cann…

Semantic Context Search in Creative Idea Generation
The ability to search memory for diverse contextual usages of words is proposed to play a role in creative idea generation. However, it is not yet known whether searching for more diverse contextual usages of words enhances the novelty of ideas during idea generation. In three experiments, participants were given a noun as a creativity prompt (e.g., chamber) and generated words creatively linked to the prompt (e.g., secret, relic). We directly ma…
Do adolescents want more autonomy? Testing gender differences in autonomy across STEM

METHODS: With a sample of US adolescents (n = 540), aged 11-19 and 55% female, we assessed students' perceived levels of autonomy given, and levels of autonomy wanted, by adapting an aut…
Partial measurement invariance of beliefs about teaching for creativity across U.S. and Chinese educators
BACKGROUND: While empirical research on creativity has grown steadily over the past 35 years, teachers' beliefs about creativity and their implicit beliefs about teaching for creativity remains understudied, as well as cross-cultural examination of teacher beliefs in this area. AIMS: This study explored the measurement invariance of beliefs about teaching for creativity (creative self-efficacy, fixed creative mindset, growth creative mindset, des…

Purpose The purpose of the quantitative study was to measure teachers’ domain-specific beliefs about teaching for creativity, piloted for the first time in this study, and compare these beliefs with domain-general beliefs about creativity. Subjects The study subjects were preservice and practicing teachers enrolled in bachelor's, mast…
