  • Mind–body therapy for cardiometabolic risk in U.S. middle-aged Black adults: A scoping review

Open Access•Danielle Martin, Danielle A Martin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: In the U.S., Black adults do not achieve the same life expectancy as their White counterparts, and this is attributable in large part to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Mind-body therapy (MBT) interventions demonstrate improvements in cardiometabolic risk (CMR) factors that promote CVD, with increased feasibility and acceptability in the general population. Less known is the feasibility, acceptability, and evidence of…

  • Exploring the Relationship between Built Environment Attributes and Physical Activity in Lower-Income Aging Adults: Preliminary Insights from a Multi-Level Trial

    Open Access•Arjan S Walia, Abby C King et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

The built environment has been linked to physical activity (PA) behaviors, yet there is limited knowledge of this association among lower-income midlife and older adults who are insufficiently active. The present cross-sectional study utilized baseline data collected between October 2017 and November 2019 from a clustered randomized controlled trial to determine how built environment attributes were associated with PA behaviors among midlife and …

  • Early Care and Education Center Environmental Factors Associated with Product- and Process-Based Locomotor Outcomes in Preschool-Age Children

Open Access•Jacob Szeszulski, Elizabeth Lorenzo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Environmental characteristics of early care and education centers (ECECs) are an important context for preschool-aged children's development, but few studies have examined their relationship with children's locomotor skills. We examined the association between characteristics of the ECEC environment with quantitatively (i.e., product-based) and qualitatively (i.e., process-based) measured locomotor skills, using the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovasc…

  • Sustainability via Active Garden Education: The Sustainability Action Plan Model and Process

Open Access•Rebecca E Lee, Jacob Szeszulski et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Sustainability of intervention programming is challenging to achieve under real world conditions, since few models exist and many studies do not plan far beyond the funding period. Programming content in early care and education centers (ECECs) is often driven by guidelines. However, implementation is very sensitive to contextual factors, such as the setting and implementer (teacher) characteristics. This paper presents the model, definitions, an…

Open Access•Jose‐Benito Rosales Chavez, Meg Bruening et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Street food stands (SFS) are an understudied element of the food environment. Previous SFS studies have not used a rigorous approach to document the availability, density, and distribution of SFS across neighborhood income levels and points of access in Mexico City. A random sample ( n = 761) of street segments representing 20 low-, middle-, and high-income neighborhoods were assessed using geographic information system (GIS) and ground-truthing …

The primary aim of this study was to examine the associations among screen-based activities, physical activity, and dietary habits in school-aged children in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Mexico City, Mexico. The secondary aim was to examine these associations across sex. The School Physical Activity and Nutriti…
