  • The effect of visual perspective on episodic memory in aging

    Open Access•Silvia Serino, Melanie Bieler-Aeschlimann et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2023

The possibility of flexibly retrieving our memories using a first-person or a third-person perspective (1PP or 3PP) has been extensively investigated in episodic memory research. Here, we used a Virtual Reality-based paradigm to manipulate the visual perspective used during the encoding stage to investigate age-related differences in the formation of memories experienced from 1PP vs. 3PP. 32 young adults and 32 seniors participated in the study. …

  • Sense of agency for intracortical brain-machine interfaces

    Open Access•Andrea Serino, Marcia Bockbrader et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 52

  • The World at Our Fingertips

Frédérique de Vignemont, Andrea Serino et al.•BOOK•World at Our Fingertips•2021

Where do you end and the external world begin? This might seem to be a straightforward, binary question: your skin is the boundary, with the self on one side and the rest of the world on the other. Peripersonal space shows that the division is not that simple. The boundary is blurrier than you might have thought. Our ability to monitor the space near the body appears to be deeply ingrained. Our evolutionary history has equipped our brains with a …

  • Emotional modulation of visual remapping of touch

Flavia Cardini, Caterina Bertini et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2012

The perception of tactile stimuli on the face is modulated if subjects concurrently observe a face being touched; this effect is termed "visual remapping of touch" or the VRT effect. Given the high social value of this mechanism, we investigated whether it might be modulated by specific key information processed in face-to-face interactions: facial emotional expression. In two separate experiments, participants received tactile stimuli, near the …

  • Disgust Sensitivity and the Neurophysiology of Left-Right Political Orientations

    Open Access•Katherine B Smith, Kevin B Smith et al.•ARTICLE•PLoS ONE•2011

Disgust has been described as the most primitive and central of emotions. Thus, it is not surprising that it shapes behaviors in a variety of organisms and in a variety of contexts--including homo sapien politics. People who believe they would be bothered by a range of hypothetical disgusting situations display an increased likelihood of displaying right-of-center rather than left-of-center political orientations. Given its primal nature and esse…
