Role of the Menstrual Cycle on Performance and Injury Risk: A Survey of Female Professional Rugby Players in the United Kingdom
A clear negative impact on perceived performance and injury risk was reported by survey participants. The interaction of physical, psychological, and nutritional factors, and a lack of awareness and education emphasise the need for further comprehensive studies and interventions, with measures such as MC monitoring and profiling, education, and training adaptions to develop openness, knowledge, and understanding
Genetic Risk Scores for the Determination of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in North India
Several polymorphisms were associated with T2DM risk. PRS based on even a limited number of loci improves the prediction of the disease. This may provide a useful method for determining T2DM susceptibility for clinical and public health applications
Prevalence and Predictors of Osteoporosis and Osteopenia in Postmenopausal Women of Punjab, India
The prevalence and predictors of osteoporosis and osteopenia remain to be examined in the postmenopausal women of Punjab, India. The present cross-sectional study screened 1628 postmenopausal women during September 2019 to March 2020. Osteoporosis and osteopenia were confirmed on the basis of T-scores using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) at the hip (femoral neck) and lumbar spine regions (L1−L4 vertebrae). The prevalence of osteoporosis a…
Multifactorial Landscape Parses to Reveal a Predictive Model for Knee Osteoarthritis
The present study attempted to investigate whether concerted contributions of significant risk variables, pro-inflammatory markers, and candidate genes translate into a predictive marker for knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The present study comprised 279 confirmed osteoarthritis patients (Kellgren and Lawrence scale >2) and 287 controls. Twenty SNPs within five genes (CRP, COL1A1, IL-6, VDR, and eNOS), four pro-inflammatory markers (interleukin-6 (IL-…
Genetic Scores of eNOS, ACE and Vegfa Genes Are Predictive of Endothelial Dysfunction Associated Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Women

Genetic analysis of novel Alu insertion polymorphisms in selected indian populations
Objectives Indian subpopulations (Chenchu, Koya, and Lobana Sikh) were analyzed at the genetic level for 12 Alu polymorphisms. These markers were then utilized to establish levels of genetic identity between the Indian populations and more widely between the Indian populations and a European population. Methods Previously collected blood samples were extracted using the phenol‐chloroform method. The samples were utilized as templates for PCR usin…
Unity in diversity: An overview of the genomic anthropology of India
CONTEXT: India is considered a treasure for geneticists and evolutionary biologists due to its vast human diversity, consisting of more than 4500 anthropologically well-defined populations (castes, tribes and religious groups). Each population differs in terms of endogamy, language, culture, physical features, geographic and climatic position and genetic architecture. These factors contributed to India-specific genetic variations which may be res…
Relationship of 2D: 4D finger ratio with muscle strength, testosterone, and androgen receptor CAG repeat genotype
This study aimed to examine the relationship between the ratio of the length of the second and fourth digits (2D:4D) and locomotor muscle strength. Furthermore, two putative mechanisms that might explain any relationship of 2D:4D with muscle strength, specifically serum total and free testosterone, and androgen receptor genotype CAG repeat number (AR CAGn) were investigated. Seventy‐seven healthy young Caucasian men completed a thorough assessmen…
Apoe distribution in world populations with new data from India and the UK
Overall APOE allelic variation in UK and Indian populations is comparable to previous studies but in tribal populations *E4 allele frequency was very low or absent. At a global level allelic variation shows that geography, isolation by distance, genetic drift and possibly pre-historical selection are responsible for shaping the spectrum of genetic variation at the APOE gene. Overall, APOE is a good anthropogenetic and clinical diagnostic marker
Most of the extant mtDNA boundaries in South and Southwest Asia were likely shaped during the initial settlement of Eurasia by anatomically modern humans
Short ReportGenetic variation at three VNTR loci (D1S80, Apob and D17S5) in two tribal populations of Andhra Pradesh, India
This study reports the genetic variation at three variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) loci (APOB, D17S5 and D1S80) in two tribes (Thoti and Kolam) of Andhra Pradesh, India. Kolams constitute 1% of the total scheduled tribal population of Andhra Pradesh, while Thoti is a numerically small tribe. All three genetic loci were genotyped using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique and were polymorphic in both populations. At the D1S80 locus…

Genetic variation in the East Midlands
According to history, the population of the British Isles derives its genepool from a succession of invaders and immigrants. The settlement pattern of these invaders gave rise to a patchwork of genepools, shown in previous genetic surveys. Specimens from 1117 blood donors of regionally subdivided East Midlands (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire) were analysed for 18 conventional genetic systems (blood groups, serum proteins and red c…
Anthropology of the apolipoprotein E (apo E) gene: Low frequency of apo E4 allele in Basques and in tribal (Baiga) populations of India
