  • The Child Report Form of the CHIP–Child Edition: Reliability and Validity

    Anne W Riley, Christopher B Forrest et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2004•References: 31

BACKGROUND: There is increasing recognition of the importance of obtaining children's reports of their health, but significant challenges must be overcome to do so in a systematic, population-based manner. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to present the initial tests of the Child Report Form of the Child Health and Illness Profile-Child Edition (CHIP-CE/CRF), a self-report health status instrument for children 6 to 11 years old. METHODS…

  • The Parent Report Form of the CHIP–Child Edition: Reliability and Validity

    Anne W Riley, Christopher B Forrest et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2004•References: 18

BACKGROUND: Valid, comprehensive instruments to describe, monitor, and evaluate health from childhood through adolescence are almost nonexistent, but are critical for health resource planning, evaluation of policy, preventive, and clinical interventions, and understanding trajectories of health during this important period of life. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to describe the development, testing, and final versions of the Parent…

  • The Validity of Measures of Socioeconomic Status of Adolescents

    Open Access•Margaret E Ensminger, Christopher B Forrest et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Adolescent Research•2000•Cited by: 32•References: 8

This study examines the validity of measures of socioeconomic status (SES) as reported by adolescents. Adolescents completed a self-administered questionnaire that included eight measures of SES. Mothers also reported on selected measures of SES. Supporting criterion validity, adolescents and mothers had relatively high agreement on the SES measures. Older adolescents, those less involved in risk behaviors, and those who do better in school gave …

  • A Taxonomy of Adolescent Health: Development of the Adolescent Health Profile-Types

    Anne W Riley, Bert F Green et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1998•References: 12

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to develop a taxonomy of health profile-types that describe adolescents' patterns of health as self-reported on a health status questionnaire. The intent was to be able to assign individuals to mutually exclusive and exhaustive groups that characterize the important aspects of their health and need for health services. METHODS: Cluster analytic empirical methods and clinically based conceptual methods were us…

  • The Adolescent Child Health and Illness Profile: A Population-Based Measure of Health

Barbara Starfield, Anne W Riley et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1995

This study was designed to test the reliability and validity of an instrument to assess adolescent health status. Reliability and validity were examined by administration to adolescents (ages 11-17 years) in eight schools in two urban areas, one area in Appalachia, and one area in the rural South. Integrity of the domains and subdomains and construct validity were tested in all areas. Test/retest stability, criterion validity, and convergent and …

  • Three Decades of Quantitative Methods in Psychology

    Open Access•Bert F Green•ARTICLE•American Behavioral Scientist•1980•References: 27

The past three decades have brought important developments in psychological methodology, including new ways of expressing theories, new methods of statistical data analysis, and more sophisticated techniques for psychological measurement. The central figures in methodological development in this period are not ideas, nor scientists, but instruments-the electronic digital computers that contribute so widely to behavioral and social research. Compu…

  • Parameter Sensitivity In Multivariate Methods

    Bert F Green•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1977

Multivariate analyses are descriptive models of data. Interpreting the parameters of such models requires knowing how much the fit of the model to the data is impaired by changes in the parameters. The relation of parameter change to loss of goodness of fit can be called parameter sensitivity. Formulas are presented for assessing the sensitivity of multiple regression weights and principal component weights
